Stinger spoon paint problem

I have been reading lots about the problem with Advanced Tackle's Michigan Stinger spoons and the problems with the paint. I too, have had the same problem... for years now!!! Well, I, for one, have had enough. Lots of talk about the problem. I have heard from more than one person that "abuse" by the user is a common problem. In my opinion, the abuse lies in the fact that we pay premium price ($3.25) for what I believe to be a "less than adequate" product!!! There are much better quality spoons available ("Ole Pete's"... made locally) and Silver Streaks, etc.
I believe it's time we send "Advanced Tackle" the message that we, as consumers, are not happy. I've already emailed them and let them know my feelings. So, if you are also displeased with their product take a few minutes and let them know how you feel and what you, as an individual, are going to do about it. Their email address is: michiganstinger@yahoo.com It only takes a minute to let them know how you feel.

As i posted before, the only way to solve this problem is to stop buying their products. As long as we buy them, they wont do anything about the problem. They work so well that not very many people will stop using them. And thats why the problem will be there. Supply the demand.
Maybe we should setup picket lines outside all the stores that carry them... :D

Change spoon companies. That is what I did this year and I have been extremely satisfied. No more Stingers for me. Yep..they catch fish, but nope, the paint doesn't stay on.

Try these:

www.magnadyne.com

The 100 series work great for walleyes, and can double as steelie spoons as well.

They Dont Sell Spoons..
I thing BFG is confused. Try this site: http://www.northportnailer.com/ and look for the Northport Nailer Menu item. They aren't cheap ($4.25), but they have a nice selection.

LOL: This is jsut wrong: http://www.northportnailer.com/store/product_info.php?cPath=22_23&products_id=314

You also have the option to choose a spoon witha single Siwash hook like Ole Pete, which is nice.

Silver Streak Spoons: http://www.gloutdoorstore.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=94

RAC Spoons: http://www.prime-tackle.com/index.p...e.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=33&zenid=a4395e16c704a632d4a499fe5b3c28dd

I've switched to RAC spoons. An internet search will show you the color offerings and they seem to match the Advance Tackle colors. The spoons are a bit heavier (thicker) than the Advance tackle spoons, but I have yet to loose the paint from a single RAC spoon...even after 3 years.

I had three brang new stingers peel off today. I threw out all of my other stingers, and placed a nice large order with old petes spoons, they look really nice and they come with the single hook option, that I hear is more effective at keeping fish on. I needed that today, the water was very choppy and I was alone so I ended up losing 4 walleye at the boat.

Freyed Knot~
I've purchased the blanks from Netcraft and use tape on them. Works very well. However, I also have many "blanks"... from Advanced Tackle... also.
Lsky... where did you throw out those old stingers? Do a little dumpster diving to get 'em back and buy a few colors of tape and you're set to go.
I personally won't ever buy Stingers again. I'll stick with OlePete's (and they're cheaper in price). Like EMRDUCKS posted, he'll customize and he's local.
Still wouldn't hurt to email Advanced Tackle and let them know they're losing business. When people find out there is a better product at a cheaper price, Advanced Tackle will get hit where it hurts...$$$$.

I put together an E-Mail to Advanced with many of the site's comments. Check out my post titled Stinger Spoons Advanced Tackle E-Mail. So far no response to my E-Mail of last week and doubt that they will respond to any.

I saw the post you sent to Advanced Tackle. I too, doubt you will hear from them. I doubt that I'll hear from them either. At least they'll know that we're no longer their customers.

They've probably gotten so many complaints that they dont even open their mail. Just delete em and move on. They really dont care about us. It's all about the money.

If you find a better fish catching spoon than Stinger then you should buy it. Pretty simple, they work better than anything else but if you don't like them then don't buy them. You guys must be new at the Walleye trolling game because this has been a topic of discussion for several years. I know because I was where you are now and swore I'd never buy another one. I've got god knows how many of Stingers, Silver Streaks, RAC, Silver Leaf, NP, Renosky but the main one I use is the Stingers cause they just work. If you want to lower your catch even minimally then go for it. Yeah I know this year you could put a hook directly on your snubber and probably catch a fish. Wait until the numbers thin down and you'll see the difference.

They are thin and have more flutter than any other spoon out there except for possibly the Laker Takers and they're super thin as well and susceptible to peling. How many of you pick your fish up with the spoon. How many leave your spoon box out in the hot sun frying all day. And how many of you know whether you are getting old stock or not besides new colors coming out.

I know Terry personally and he is an upstanding person and one of the LEWT's biggest supprters, he's also supported OGF through the Hawg Fest the last 2 years and was probably going to again this year until this crybaby post came into play. Suck it up and send them back with a decent note or quit buying them but if you go at him with daggers you probably won't get too far and you wouldn't with me either.

I am not sponsored by Stinger and I've had my issues with paint coming off in the past as well but I've also had trouble with the other brands as well at one time or another.

"I know Terry personally and he is an upstanding person"

Yeah really upstanding guy, knowingly sells an inferior product. What a model citizen he is. Unfortunately it is the way of the world, make as much money as you can cutting any cost you can. Who needs a sponsor like that anyways, good rittens.

When you say "good rittens" and "who needs a sponsor like that anyways" I'm not sure who you're speaking for.

It surely isn't the staff of OGF, that I can assure you.

Ohio Game Fishing is completely neutral in this discussion.

ezmarc, i do second that.....VERY WELL SAID!!!

id like to say something to all the  bellyachers.......in this great land of ours this is what happens. you buy something, you like it, you buy more. you dont like, DONT BUY IT ANYMORE, PERIOD. you dont keep spending YOUR cash on something you dont like. at least rational thinking people dont. i dont do it, but i have had 3/4 of the finish peel on ONE yes ONE stinger spoon (green puke from ebay). i have well over $400.00 worth of these fine fish catching gems. i personally have no problems with this product except the hooks blow but i change them anyhow. maybe im just lucky, all im saying is if you dont like it dont buy it. thats what i call freedom to choice (of your spoon!!!) :) EZbite

marc, i thaught you were the one complaining about them 2 yrs ago???most of us on here have just put up with the bad paint, but now that olpetes and others are comming into play we are now going to all join in and boycott the stinger spoons. most of us on here ,at least i my self have been trolling for eyes for 10 yrs at least with spoons long b4 stingers were even available. if your a good friend ,why don't you tell him about his paint problem,or is he 1 of your sponsors and you get them for free?

oh yea , i have been trolling for walleye when the only bait used were erie dearies and hot n tots????????about 30 years . i caught walleye at avon when the helpers at charlies boats didn't even know they were walleye. and kelly's island was a gost town, with 1 bar/resturant and 1 gas pump. iam now experimenting with testors model paint, they have some great metalflake colors.i do have an iwata dual action air brush that i may try out soon. just need the paint for it.

Customer input has benefited many companies (Harley Davidson is a good example).

Advanced has a good product in the marketplace.

They DO catch fish and MANY of the finishes hold up very well.

Some of that product also has quality issues during field testing (fancy term for fishing huh!). People who have paid for product are entitled to voice opinions about that product's performance.

That's not being a cry baby....and thats not being a bellyacher.

It would seem, that with more competition coming on the scene, Advanced would want this information and use it ......one way or another..... in their management decisions.

IMO, people can and will move on to other suppliers........but wouldn't it be nice to stay with a product that you know works.......especially if the manufacturer made some effort to fix what paying customers help identify as a flaw.

I suspect there is more to this issue than we as consumers see. Fact is, coatings are a rather complex issue in many businesses.

Im Probably going to regret this but. hey Freyednot back off a little bit. You know everything <Marc said was 100% truth. I am Sponsored by Michigan Stinger and on there Pro Staff. Bottom Line They Catch Fish. Not only due they catch Fish they Catch Big Fish. I Have been on the tourney circuit now for 5 years and they are resposible for many wins and top five finishes. There color selection is outstanding. There paint does come off sometimes on some colors but if you were gettting hit by something with teeth all the time your paint might come off too. And By the way the whole staff at Michigan Stinger are outstanding people and are fishing people and im sure they work hard everyday to improve there product for years to come. tightlines Guys Gary Zart Blue Dolphin

I will probably get reamed for this but what's new? Yeah Marc was complaining about them. The key words being 2 years ago. Where have you all been? And actually I was the one who packed all the bad spoons up neatly, sent them off and got a crappy response. What they said on the phone to me was totally different than what they did. And I DID stop buying them for a couple of years, but like they say...they DO catch fish. So wake up, catch up with the posts and don't buy them if you don't like them! And evidently, LSKY5101982 doesn't fish tournaments or he would know how valuable sponsors are, and I have never heard any of the guys who have won a batch of Stinger spoons complaining!!!

#26 ·
MAny of us who fish are not tournament fishers. Many of us who fish are lower middle class people with limited expendable income. I don't like the inuendo in some of these threads that implies that if you aren't a tournament fisherman, then your opinion doesn't matter. Furthermore, I believe that it is disengenuous to support a poor quality product just because they sponsor you or becasue you get them for free.

We have not yet established if the issues with Stingers is due to shoddy craftsmanship (i.e. manufactuer cheaping out to maximize profits) or if it is due to an inherent limitation of a manufacturing process. Is it possible that what makes the Stingers work so well is also what prevents them from holding a good finish? I believe it is. However, if I find that other products are more durable and work as well, then I will not buy STingers. If a lot of people do that, then the manufacturer will be forced to explore new (*gasp* possibly innovative) techniques to keep the Stinger product competitive.

By expressing our dissatisfaction we are giving Advanced a heads up that the quality of their spoons is unacceptable at times. If their product is truely superior from a walleye catching standpoint, then they can freely disregard our comments. I think that is a crappy thing to do, but hey. This is America, and in America capitalism is king...profit is king. So long as profits are maximized, companies could care less.

I don't know if Michigan Stingers are the end all be all for walleye fisherman. Perhaps they are. But yesterday I ordered 3 Silver Streak spoons and 3 Northpoint Nailer spoons.
