Last year was my first trip to lake erie and i went around the 3rd week of april and caught my limit of fish within 20 minutes and all were great fish for me anyway around 5-6 pound but were all jacks, i was wondering if the females had already started moving east (i was fishing right off betsy) or were they there and just didnt catch any of them, Should i have been there earlier to catch the 10 pound females? Thanks for any and all replies

the bigger eyes will be found suspended in the deeper water just offshore of the reefs.. and will usually be caught trolling cranks in the top of the water column.
Exactly right! Don't be afraid to fish high in the water column. Top 5 ft often has great numbers of big fish.

As for the big fish don't taste as good. If its legal, which it is, keep your limit of what ever size you want. I personally get grossed out when I get Walleye jizz all over the boat. Something about handling another males, man juice thing.

I was waiting for one of these threads to go there!! Here comes the silly season, when everyone starts stirring and most young mens fancy turns to the fish not the juice.:p
