Looking for some ideas on setting up a fishmaster 196. If you have any pics
of your dash board set up and rod holder ideas I sure would appreciate it.
Particulary interested in where you mounted your compass, electronics and
rod holders.

Thanks

Track Mounts allow you to move your rod holders north and south for pretty much any application. I would advise a track mount with about 4 rod holders per side.

Purchased a Starcraft 196 at the beginning of the year and it is set-up with a Bert's 48" track on both sides. The back of the tracks come to about the middle of the cut-outs for the seat cushions near the stern of the boat. From these we can put out 4 rods in individaul holders on each side fairly comfortable. We also have two fixed rod holders that I place at the front of the tracks angled toward the front of the boat and use them for net holders to keep them off the ground. Make sure to have some caps for the back of the tracks so you don't lose any of the rod holders (didn't happen to us but have heard it can happen). We have an 8 hp yamaha four-stroke kicker with autopilot that has worked very well for us this year when trolling. Hopefully that answers some of your questions. If you have any more, feel free to ask. I will try to round up some pictures that show the dash mounts and send you a PM with them. Good luck fishing this fall.

Thanks Bob. The problem I have with mounting a track system is that
the bimini rails are mounted on the gunnels and extend to about a foot
or so of the back. I hate to remove the bimini because it has sides
and an enclosed back end. I may have to shorten the tracks on the bimini
which I believe I can do. I would also like to see were guys mounted there
fishfinders, compass and radios. Theres not alot of room on the dash.

I'm at work right now but I'll see if I can post a picture on how I set mine up.Every thing works great for me.Rod holders etc are like the famous question which one is better,Ford or Chevy LOL.
When you see the picture I used BigJon triples and in the back on each side I used Berts for flat lining and bottom bouncers and they work awesome.I also used a JohnyRay swivel mount for my Lowrance, for me I just don't like the Ram mounts.Like I said when setting up my boat I did it for my stly of fishing and cost was also a big thing but I love it and it works awesome.

Rod holder placement is a big deal. Dipsy rods should be to the back, board rods nearer the front of the cockpit. But keep in mind getting the Dipsy rod out of the holder with a big steelhead rippin line, getting in and out of the boat both at the dock and when on the trailer, and convenience for seeing the rod tips from the helm seat (or other seats). Merge all that and you'll have your rod holders where you want them, the first time (w/o extranious holes).

Getting in and out (don't forget there are some fat old boat whores lurkin around this site lookin for rides). LIKE ME !!!

I had a small hole on the dash and you can see I put a small back clip there.Man thats the best thing I ever did LOL it holds all my depth charts and they never blow into the water on a windy day LOL.And Jim brought up a great point also about getting in and out of the boat.I'm 6'1" and 280lb and with the holders the way they set I have no problem at all.

Hey evileye, sorry it took so long. I havent been on OGF much, with working ot and the baby...time is pretty limited. Rockytop sent me a pm letting me know u were asking for pics. here is a few...I will have to search some of my other pics show off the boat good. I too like GotOne have a 2100, so its longer but the dash is identical...the gunnels will be longer and have berts tracks on them. I will pm u my number and you can ask all the questions you want.
