Former Chief Mike Budzik recently resigned from Governor Kasich's staff because of fundamental opposition to Kasich and ODNR's agenda to destroy the Division of Wildlife. I have posted on this site previously and was surprised how apathetic the majority if sportsmen that frequent this message board have been on this issue. The latest thing to develop is the senate leadership has approved a provision that changes the residency requirements for purchasing hunting and fishing licenses and tags so that any non-resident that owns any amount of property....even 1 square foot....can hunt anywhere in the state as a resident. None of the other 49 states in the country allow this. It appears this is what the ODNR Director Zehringer and his minions have been lobbying for.

It's not too late. If every sportsman and woman contacts their state senator and lets them know on no uncertain terms they support an independent Division of Wildlife and the license fee increase that will provide revenue to get them back on even keel. Let them know this residency requirement change is unfair and unprecedented in the entire country.

Here is an article with former Chief Mike Budzik's resignation letter. A little background on Mike....he was an outstanding chief and worked hard to help deliver the votes of the sportsmen and women of the state in Kasich's presidential primary bid. It is clear he has been kicked to the curb since then.

Here is an article from highly respected outdoor columnist from the Toledo Blade who has done is own investigation on this issue.

People we need to unite on this issue. Contact your senator now. The budget bill has to be passed before June 30th. I can't emphasize how drastically this will change things negatively for sportsmen and women if a license fee increase is offset by this residency end around trick.

I live in marion county and we had some descent fishing in our area a few years back,..Marseilles reservoir in killdeer had walleye great smallmouth huge catfish perch crappie pond 33 was awesome bass lake, the state decided they couldn't spend any money repairing the reservoir and now it is completely drained dry, we had a fish kill at pond 33 4 years ago and I don't think it has been restocked. Seems like odnr is only catering to bird watchers, they keep turning everything into wetlands for birds. Fisherman buy the liscenses put up all the money for everything, I'm starting to feel like they don't give a **** about fisherman(in my area)its all about the birds. seems like if they would have taken .01% of fishing liscense money for 1 year they could have saved that reservoir. they should make bird watchers get a liscense.

I totally get what you are saying and I also totally agree. I also support a license fee increase for myself along with a out of state license policy mirroring those states around Ohio.

That being said, I truly believe people get what they deserve.

Aside from the legislature, whose gerrymandering of district lines put a certain party in the absolute majority, the people of Ohio have voted for Kasich and given a single party absolute control of the state government.
Now we will pay the price for their ideological belief of starve the beast (state and local governments) for their policy of tax cuts. They will not tolerate dissent nor will they listen to it.
They already have cut state aid to local governments, higher education, public schools and anything else that does not fit their ideological purity of lower taxes for the higher incomes.
The federal government will be doing the same in the next few years.. Look at the Greats Lakes Initiative...
The people of the state of Ohio need to look in the mirror and ask themselves whether they are part of the problem that has created this beast.

After some consideration I've also emailed my reps. I'm not particularly politically inclined and hesitate to take a side on an issue, because of my lack of knowledge on the subject. But I look at it this way, Eric is involved (up to his eyeballs) and his opinion most likely would be very close to mine, so I sent an email. As I think most here should also do.

To the top. Let's keep this one going guys.

I know Mike Budzik personally through the shooting sports industry...he is as good as they come and passionate about doing what is right for the wildlife and the hunters in our state.

If he says something is wrong...I have no reason not to agree with him.
