Fished Pymatuning creek with a good friend from Florida. Captain Jack Peterson is a pro fisherman from Lake Port Fl. He catches wild shinners as a pro bait dealer as well as market fishing out of West Palm Beach. I was racking my brain to find some hot fishing for him on his visit. We hit Pymatuning Creek at Orangeville Yesterday 5-9-2011. The creek is extremely flooded. The dam itself was 4 feet below water. We fished flooded timber and landed 80-100 white bass, and a bout 25 hybrid strippers ib the 3-7 lb. range. It was a great day of fishing!

Hey there Adam! yup, they were all up the creek spawning. Not sure if you can still call it a creek at this point...the bank to bank on that little creek is only 30-40 feet across..NORMALIY Yesterday it was about 100 yards wide. They must have the gates closed over at Shanango Res Dam. I fish this run every may, but this is the first time I was able to fish it from where I park my truck!

Actually I fished the shenango below the lake on sat and they had all 7 gates wide open!! And looking at the gages now they still do. But still caught a small eye, a trout, and some white bass.

I'm thinking of heading to Orangeville maybe tomarrow. How crowded was it? Were you below the dam or upstream? I fish there in the summer for carp and gills but never white bass.

Lawman...I'm guessing you mean below the dam...PA side...needing PA license?

I've fished the creek above the dam...OH side...not having a PA license, and although I've heard otherwise....the Ohio side is a DEAD creek as far as I'm concerned. Haven't caught a fish there yet, shore or boat.

Have stood and watched them catch a fish on every cast it seemed like on the PA side.

Probably should buy a PA license since it's only about 3-4 miles from my house.

Is the creek in Ohio or PA? I have never fished Pymatuning and this gives me the urge to... I am sitting around planning a trip to Mosquito and probably could hit this in the same day.
The stream begins north of Kinsman and flows southeast, then going through Orangeville on the OH/PA border the then entering Shenango Res. Im pretty sure he fished the PA side, which is much better IMO.

Let me just say this...this little creek is at a flood stage higher than I've seen in many years. The dam that divides Ohio and Pa water is, or was at least 4 feet under the surface. This means there is nothing to keep fish from roaming well into the Buckeye water. The Pa side has very limited access, but I fish both states. With the gates open now at the Shanago dam, the flood won't last long. The run will be on for a week or two more.
