i hear Beckman nets are back on the market and hear there great nets but I've never used them. i have the egos2 slider and love it for walleye. i have a couple of frabil tru trax nets i was using then i got the ego and use it now. its always lined up and all you do is push a button to adjust the handle length. i have the 58x108 handle and after netting a big fish i retract the handle before lifting it in the boat. don't know that i really need to retract it but who wants 108" of handle in the boat anyway.

Several good models on the market. Depends on the size of the boat you have, how big of fish you target and weather you fish with somone or alone. Of course then you need to decide on net design and material....
I have found that some of these super nets are heavy, as in if I'm fishing alone they would be a pain. Also, on the net material, Ego slider advertised a hook free design, mine isn't. I have hooked the net with this one as much as I did with my old one. I have since coated it with sprayable rubber. Lastly, on the Ego, the size of the holes in the net are kinda big. When catching smaller eyes they sometimes get their faces into the holes and it's tough to get them out as the areas around their mouthes gets caught in the net. Somthing to consider when choosing net material.

Here we go!!!! I can say we have had a ranger net that is at least 20 years old. Other than a net replacement it had stood the test of time. Not super heavy or over engineered like others that are built to last, no names please, and the octogon handle is great. Our second net is an old Beckman and it is great as well. Beckman was bought and used since 2013 without issue in weight, wearing out or hooks in net. Give me an octogon handle with a Beckman bag and to me you would have the perfect net. My list would be a tie for 1st between Beckman and Ranger, Frabill 2nd, Ego 2 3rd. Its a net, it has one simple job, it shouldn't be over engineered or difficult to lift or use! If I run it over with my vehicle than that's my stupid mistake and I deserve any consequences! That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

At the recommendation of Erie Outfitters, when we purchased our Beckman net we purchased one with a long enough handle to not have to extend it when netting a fish. That way you don't have to worry about lining up the pin and hole. So we really never had the issue extending it. For the times when we have extended it we marked a line with a sharpie several inches before the pin. So when you extend the pole, you know where the pole pin should be lined up to drop into hole. That has worked with no issues.

Loved my original Beckman net but it is now at the bottom of the lake! Got a new beckman. The handle & hoop are decent but the bag is way too big. You cant reach in to grab the fish & if you lay it on the deck the fish rolls itself in the net & tangles. Added to which the mesh is too small (3/4”). I have been talking to Loki & they are sending me their TECHNET 8 bag which will fit my Beckman hoop, is shallower & has 1 3/4” mesh. We will see.

Joe have you tried putting a trout net magnet at the bottom of the bag (zip tie) and one on the handle? I did this with mine a few years ago and have fewer issues now. Bigger fish will release the magnet while smaller fish won’t so you don’t get as many tangles. I use S2 slider XXL nylon net but with the 108” handle. I Plasti-Dipped net and it worked well last weekend.

I've always liked the looks of fishnets. Anyway, I'm still enjoying my Beckman when not fishing solo. I have a lightweight Ranger and medium cabelas when alone. Never leave home without two.

I have an older Beckman that I love other then the handle. Didn't really care for the new ones unfortunately which I was really disappointed about and waiting for before I bought new nets. Like ErieRider said if you could take the old bags with a ranger handle it would be the perfect net in my opinion. I still have my Beckman and also a ranger for the small boat but now I have a pair of RS nets for the new boat. They are a little heavier then some but they are a quality built net that should last a long long time. Plus you can customize them to your liking.

I don't know why any manufacturer would build a round handle extending net. I had a beckman, and hated it and sold it. I know all about the line thing to line up holes. But in a fire drill, Newby on the boat, etc, it was always a problem. I can be perfectly happy with a cheap Cummins with a hex handle .. btw the purpose wasn't to bash beckman. Most folks love them. I dont.....personal preference.

x2 on staying away from "round handle" extension nets.

I have a frabill extension net. Round handle. When I take people fishing, having to concentrate on what they're doing while screwing around trying to line up that hole causes a lot of aggravation.

Especially when the thing comes completely apart and I now have to get it back together while my buddy with his first every FO walleye on has managed to get it right to the back of the boat.

Except that I already own it, and it's stout enough to land kings, I'd gladly beat that handle to death with a baseball bat.
