What recommendations do you guys have for a landing net when I'm using crankbaits? I have an ego i think they are called now. It's pretty good although with a big fish your plastic just below the net seems to come apart a little. I am looking at a rubber net from Janns Nettcraft out of Maumee Ohio. Anybody have any pros or cons with this net?

I went to their website and looked thru the net selection. I have one with similar netting to this one.. Order #: 934106...

I like that treble hooks do not grab tight on the rubber net itself... they will hook the net, but are easy to release as the barbs have nothing to grab onto and the hook points don't stick thru the rubber rope

dipped my fish to hold the fishes head up by staying tight on the line giving the barbs less chance to hook the net
I should re-state what I meant to say here... certainly swim the fish to the net, do NOT hold the head up when netting, but after the fish is in the net and being lifted into the boat, do not let the line loose, but rather hold the walleye tight on the line trying to keep the head up and crankbait hooks out of the net... rather then letting the fish just lay in the net where the hooks have a better possibility of encountering the net.

Hopefully that will make everyone happy...

I purchased and Ego that didn't have the rubberized net... it was terrible for treble hooks... I ordered the replacement rubber net, and its better. It's still not as good as my bigger Beckman and I've only replaced the bag once in 25+ years. I'd look at another Beckman. I do have two rubber bagged smaller nets with telescoping handles, that I keep in the boat as a spare, or for bass sized fish... works fine but they are shallow bags and the fish tend to bounce... I can see getting hooked by a bass easily in one of those because the fish has a chance to bounce and deflect... not too sure I'll keep them around much longer.

Deep rubber nets are good for not eating hooks, but all rubber nets have a tendency to knock lures out if tune. The line tie loop can get caught on net strand, and get put under enough side pressure to detune the lure. So if you use a rubber net watch the tune on your lures. (You should any way but be extra careful with rubber nets).

I have an Ego, I like it but I just a had the handle button let loose and it will slide down the handle now. I like the Ego for the way it collapses and makes for a smaller profile. Just put on a rubber net on the Ego looking forward to trying it. Kinda disappointing to read Jim's opinion of the rubber net. I have an old Beckman net and it is sweet, bag getting little ratty and it is needing a new bag. But man is that dude tough! I have lifted in two 10lbrs at the same time.

I just want to put my 2 cents worth in. I am in my 70's and I have used nothing but rubber nets since they came on the market. Luv them. Rarely ever get hooks in them and if they do very easy to get out and you are not tearing them all up trying to get the barbs out like a material net. In my opinion I will never have one again. I only have one with a short like 4 ft. handle but it works fine for everything I do. I think you are making a wise decision. Tight lines.

Hi David,

If you are looking for a great net for crankbaits and other treble hook baits, and plan on coming to our store, we have 2 models of Beckman Nets that come stock with a rubber bag (one clear rubber, one black rubber) that are in-store only options due to shipping, but they have been extremely popular with local walleye fishermen. Of course, the Ranger Rubber Pier and Boat net mentioned above is a great option as well. Please let us know if you have any questions.

Can you message me the link or product number for the beckman nets? I have the green hoop with extended handle.

have you looked at the ego deep rubber net at egos2slider.com? I have the rubber-coated net but only used it on a few fish caught on cranks off my downriggers. wasn't a real problem with the cranks. but the deep rubber would be ok if it's not to heavy or you're going to go with a rubber net. its 24" deep so the fish will have a hard time jumping out. but its only 19x21 hoop. its 69.00 just for the net head. but you can get just the net for 26.00 if you have a net head. if you already have the ego s2 slider handle and wanted to go to rubber i would give this a lot of thought.
