Has anyone had any luck here this year. Tried it once a while back & did nothing besides losing equip on side of cliff. Managed last yr to get a few FO gills when they came within casting distance of shore on small fly. It always was neat seeing them going crazy on the surface & hoping they came close enought to catch.

The quarry is located directly behind (east of) the Whitehouse police station. It is just north of the soccer fields, and shares the same parking lot. The signs now say it is part of the Blue Creek Conservation Area.

The fishery has really declined over the last 3-4 years. This is due in no small part to the "mamagement methods" being used by the City of Whitehouse. About 3 years ago they cut down all of the trees that were partially submerged on the eastern end of the lake. Then, they threw in a bunch of christmas trees to try to make up for the lost habitat. Finally, they improved fishing access by cutting down many of the trees along the waters edge on the east end. The result is a loss of forage (insects, frogs) and cover/shade for the fish population.

To make matters worse, people have pulled gills out by the bucketful (literally!), and now they are much harder to come by. As a result, the quality and quantity of LM bass to be caught has suffered proportionally.

I was there last weekend, and managed 2 small bass off the west end in 3 hours of fishing. I saw more fish, but they were uninterested in my offerings.

If you go, wear heavy bug repellant as the ticks and chiggers are out in force! Also, be careful of the cliff on the west and south sides, as they are unfenced. The whole area is generally unpatrolled (ironic, considering that it is immediately behind the police station!) and a fall could spell big trouble.

Finally, the water is extremely clear - visibility is 10 ft.+, so plan your line choice accordingly.

I went to Whitehouse Quarry this winter several times, caught my limit of trout almost every time I was there. Jigging off the bottom with a small hook jig head and some corn. In the summer the trout here get picky and you have to switch it up. Last year we had a little jon boat following them around while they hit flies on the surface, once again we were using corn on jigs. Last weekend I was in the far back corner by the diving board and caught a pretty nice sized sunfish with a jig and wax worms under a bobber.

Not the same quarry they're talking about. I think you're talking about Whitestar.

The problem wasn't mismanagement it was totally unmanaged. It was great when they first opened it 4 years ago but it's fished out now. You could catch FO gills all day long, not so anymore. I know guys that were taking 10 gallons of gills everyday and their reasoning was." If we don't do it somebody else will." And so they did. I also caught a few 12"+ perch and big smallmouth, all released.
