What happened to common courtesy?

Just a question or maybe a reminder. My wife and I do alot of crappie fishing from the bank. Mostly around O'Shay and in the Twin Lakes area. Why is it that just because we are fishing from the bank boaters feel it necessary to fish the same tree or bush that we are? I've fished many bass tournements over the years and all of them have a 50 yard rule. So why don't we get the same courtesy from the bank. I have a boat and when we are fishing in it nobody bothers us, but from the bank it's a different story. I guess I'm just venting alittle, but over the last couple of weeks we've had people cast 1 foot or less from our lines. I've had a guy hook my line with a crankbait. I'm a very easy going laidback person who just likes to fish with his wife, but this gets annoying. Like most men, when someone feels the need to intrude on my wife's space I get a little defensive. I also understand public water and nobody "owns" any one spot, but as a life long fisherman, lets show others a little courtesy.

Thanks for listening.

Bryan, I feel for you and you're not alone. I mainly fish from a boat - and it's not just a bank fishing problem. There are inconsiderate and/or perhaps ignorant people everywhere. They either don't care, don't know any better, or don't stop and think about the consequences of what they do. (Perhaps they just weren't brought up with decent manners?)

I've had my share of run-ins with these types of people and many times you just scratch your head and say "whatever", other times you wish you had a stack of bricks to throw at them. :D

Not sure that manners are in consideration by a lot of novice anglers. What I mean is that most respectable fisherman don't need another man's/woman's spot to catch their creel full. I, being mostly a landlocked lover of fish, run into the rudeness often. A lot of times I just give up my spot, and continue to catch fish a few feet to the left or right. Really makes em mad to see you do that!!!!!!! I have just as much trouble from fellow landlockeds. I also like it when they're keeping fish, I'm catching bigger, twice as many and throwing them all back......LOVE IT!!!!!!!!LOL :D Every once in a while I get pushed far enough that I have to say something. I know it really tries the patience, but what can you do???????

Its a shame but most people don't care now days. They are looking for the ez way to do something. so instead for finding there own fish they want to take yours. now it may also be b/c they figure you can't fish the same spots they can from the bank. Normaly I see that boats don't look out for bank guys

common courtesy:eek:xymoron: adj. NOT at all common: rude people should not reproduce. Under the list of also should not reproduce:stupid people, mean people..you don't even know who you are, but I see droves of you every single day. When dealing with them, try your hardest not to be mean, rude and stupid back, that makes you one of them. Politely explain that they have interfered with your good time. Then kick their stuff in the water.

hi site, just my 2 cents but iam still landlocked for now :D .....and i have good sucess from shore. I have seen all kinds of things but i agree, most boaters tend to look down on bank anglers ive been told for whatever reason only the person knows.Always trying to moter pass to spook ur fish but the funny thing is they help by creating wave action ;) so i welcome them lol.

I have fished many a spot and people will throw there line right were ur fishing it is rude. When wading in the spring during spawning runs it is worse u might get stepped on out there ive even seen fights while wading before over a hole thats producing some people are just plain dumb.

I just want to say thanks for letting me vent a little. Maybe some of the unfriendlies read this and think about it the next time. A buddy of mine emailed me a little saying that I think fits when dealing with these kinds of people....."When arguing with an idiot make sure he isn't doing the same." That's what I'll try to remember next time this happens to us.
