With all the fish ID questions that pop up on here from time to time, i thought i'd share some pictures so those wondering have a good idea what they caught next time they catch it.
I headed to North Reservoir today for the last hour of daylight by the pad field, this would be a great area to take some youngsters to get their hands slimy... small fish, but a fish on almost every cast... lots of Crappie, different types of Sunfish and small Bass are hitting real good there now... caught them on a little 1/32 oz jig with a chartruse panfish assassin.
First the Warmouth

Ill try to catch a Redear and a Pumpkinseed later this week and add it to the thread, or if anyone has some Sunfish pics they would like to add feel free to do so... some awesome specimens at this time of year with their spawn colors going.
I had to throw this one in there... my son caught a Warmouth off the dock over the weekend and when i showed it to him up close he leaned it and gave it a kiss:D

Guess i'll debate then:)
it's a redear because... just the tip of the ear is red... i caught that one during the spawn, so it's colors are more defined, notice the body shape is more oval then it is round... Pseed are more of a rounded body and generally don't have vertical striping. The fish in the pic is 10"... ive never seen a 10" Pseed.
here's some more pics of redear... all the same species, but still look a little different. The main thing is the tip of the ear is red, the body shape is oval with a lower angle slope on the forehead. In the pic with the 2 redear they had the same color pattern as the fish in the pic we are debating, but after being in the bucket a while the bright colors faded. That's all i got to debate... and i still think redear.

 They say the two sunfish that get confused the most are redears and punkies. No doubt those other pics are definitely redears. When you start to get down to the nitty gritty of comparing the fins, spine numbers, spots on the end flaps, coloration, I got more confused. They say the most tell tale is if you bend the pec fin forward, the fin on a punkie will go beyond the mouth, the one a redear will just reach the eye. And redears pec fins are narrow and pointy, that is why I thought the 1st pic was a punkie. Oh well, I love catching both!!!! :)

Guppy, i was wrong about the vertical striping on Pumpkinseed... it seems the bigger they get it is more pronounced... i see what you mean, by all the google pics of Pseed. They are very similar, still thinking redear though, but good you pointed that out... i always like the fish ID stuff, good to know your fish... one of the best parts about fishing IMO is the identifying the fish plants and animals you see out there.

buckzye11, I had some pics of 11"ers that I caught through the ice on my phone, but a couple of weeks ago I dropped my phone in Pymatuning. I lost a lot of pics and vids of fish and my kids. Sucks. And the fish that you posted as a red ear, is not a 'seed. It's a red ear.
