So I am fairly new to the forum and to Ohio fishing; grew up in Florida (hence the name). I started wading the Olentangy last year. I've read some posts on here regarding wading and property and I'm not familiar with this. Can any of you long-time OH guys give me some info? So wading is apparently not OK in certain parts of rivers? Never had any issues last summer but I'd like to know the rules.

Just access from a public area or where you have permission and wade until you get kicked out/ see a no trespassing sign. I generally don't "see" the signs and I have rarely had any problems anyways. Asking permission to access/park places is always good and worst thing someone will say is no.

In ohio property owners have the potential to own the river bottom and most with property next to a river do. In order to wade on this private property you need permission from the owner. You can float the river in a canoe or yak though with no problem though because its only the river bottom. It can be confusing trying to determine where public river property and private property converge so its better just to ask when your unsure. hope this helps i never have any trouble either but it would not be cool if the cops roll up while your fishing!

State Parks are usually your best bet for long stretches of river, the parking areas will usually see more traffic, but if your willing to walk 1/4 down stream before you start fishing (from the parking lot) you own the river!!!! well, until you leave park boundries, lol

before i got my boat i used to wade the central ohio rivers all summer every year. i never had any problems but i usually kept moving as i was looking for smallies. i have heard of homeowners coming down to yell at anglers who just set up and catfish.
