The colder the water, the slower the presentation for the most part. Jerk baits are great baits to use. Sometimes let the jerkbait sit 3-7 seconds befoe you twitch it. Slow rolling spinnerbaits and a-rigs are also good. Soft plastics are normally slowly drag across the bottom.

Nimisilla can be a tough lake to figure out at times.
Gonna take you some time to figure out the right locations and conditions.
I’ve had many memorable days and just as many miserable days there, and I first fished it over 40 years ago.

If your fishing from shore at nimi or any lake you will find spots that produce but always be looking for new areas to fish .last year I struggled at nimi fishing of course they was the usual spots that produce from shore so I finally spent time fishing new spots n bam now I have a few other spots that produce.keep trying different spots and yes nimi can be tuff at times

 

I'll be moving around a bunch and let ya know when I find one of those spots! Thanks.

as the temps go up walk the causeway all the way too the spillway some good fishin along there
along the banks off main street , the pump house has deep water

before they cleaned the banks along main st off all the trees there was some great crappy along the banks,

Only problem with that is the entire north end of Nimisila is closed to shore fishing. Clearly marked on the Summit Metro Parks Nimisila map shown here:

stay away from the spots where people can park and walk 50ft. and fish. put in a little leg work and you will be surprised

 

As far as your first question is it slow for late March, I would say yes the water temp is several degrees colder than it usually is. A couple warm days and they will be more active, but you can still find some now. Are you bass fishing or crappie fishing, or some other species? Might help so we can give better suggestions on baits and locations.

Looking for bass mostly with texas rig plastics, spinner bait & went down to light spinners (rooster tails). Even tried a skirted jig. I'm an amateur and still learning all the variables - but loving it along the way. Appreciate your advice!

 

You can increase odds at Nimi by getting away from the shore with some chest waders in the spring. Many areas are very wader friendly, providing access to areas that those completely shorebound cannot reach.

 

Thanks! I'd love to find an inexpensive used boat to get to areas I can only salivate over from shore. One day maybe!

 

Time for walleye at night and early mornings. I’m gonna try my hand tonight if I can stay awake lol. I’m back to work now and I’ve only had time/energy for one try so far this spring. Night- Only had one good bait and a nice fish bit. Slipped the hook 3 times over the 60 second period. He chewed and killed my only bait. But teeth marks only mean one thing there.

Here are a few Nimi bass I caught last year from shore. Most were on paddle tail swimbaits like Big Joshy's and 1/8 oz or lighter jigs. Live 3-4" shad under a bobber, and jigging spoons also did well for me. No hawgs but lots of them in that 2-4 pound range.

 

Love the pics! I had a little luck at the Southgate Park ponds over the weekend. Landed 4 bass, none larger than 2lbs, but they were a sight for sore eyes. I'll get back to Nimi real soon.

Nite bite is good now. Crappie bass and walleye. Haven’t landed an eye this year yet but had one bite last night from bridge and slipped 🪝

I don't usually target bass, but catch plenty at Nimi on live bait and crappie jigs. Also catch a lot of bass there from shore on 1/4 to 1/2 oz. jigging spoons.
