Guys,

I am having zero luck trolling bucktails on LSC. I have a bunch of Trolling Girls and Spankys.

I have tried with 10 ounce weights, down riggers. All different lengths in the prop wash.

What am I doing wrong?

thanks

We did our best up there with 4 & 5 oz weights with snaps on both ends and put them inline, attach one end to your main line and the other end to a 4 to 5 foot leader to the bucktail. Our best leads were 50 to 75 back, just depends on where the fish are at in the water column. By the way the best bait we ever ran up there that caught more fish than anything was a fire tiger lil ernie. Sometimes that good bucktail bite can be pretty far out in the lake in " deeper water " 18 to 20fow. Black with chartreuse blades and hulk hogan were always good colors. Good luck.

read a great article on trolling bucktails. I was running them too close to the boat (short leads). the article said to run them 75-125 feet back and very shallow (like 3 feet down). I will try again Sunday on LSC
I’ve found you need to slow down a little to run blades. 3.5 mph is my max speed with blades out.

Ordered some Spanky’s today to try

The smallest size they make, Firefly. 4.5"

I think success will be better using the smaller ones. They should pull good behind boards. I figure we do great use 5" lures on LSC so why not a bucktail the same size.

You can get them down using the larger dipsey divers but with larger/heavier baits, you need to crank them pretty tight. I’ve run them with crankbaits at CC. Haven’t caught anything but I know they work.

I've had good luck just putting a down rigger ball down approx. 10' and letting back about 10' of line. I've used spoons as big as muskie mayhem spinnerbaits. You just need to make sure the release will be able to handle the spinnerbaits.
