So I pulled my motor to fix some leaky bolts and I noticed my outboards mounting plate has begun to rub gouge’s in my transom. In the pic you can see it as two upside down eyebrows where the grey paint starts. The transom has become somewhat concave in that area after 24 years and is why I believe it is beginning to rub. I’m thinking fill the gouge with JB weld and add some form of spacer to bring the motor out just enough to not rub. What would you do? New boat? It’s a 17ft Polarcraft Eagle, 40hp Yamaha. The boat is rated up to a 60hp.
so dig out all the wood and then drop in a new piece? marine plywood? regardless i would use the west system epoxy to cover the entire thing and especially any cut edge before installation. i west system every cut in my bulk heads...
They put telephone poles in the ground and they dont rot. But prob be pretty expensive to get a thick piece of cedar plywood. There’s chemically treated deck wood that is suppose to be good for 50 years
