The water is moving too fast!
The water is MUD!

I have never caught a channel cat upon a Beetle Spin and previously only caught catfish upon crank baits referencing fishing for bass. The water was a mess and I knew that bass fishing would be problematic but I caught my first catfish of the year upon a Beetle Spin. The channel probably only weighted about a pound but he fought well. The second catfish caught resulted from a loop in the reel which represented me discharging line to correct the problem. When I finally got the line snug a channel cat took my Beetle Spin and a wonderful fight proceeded. That channel cat probably weighted two pounds but fought better than any of the bass caught this year in the Olentangy River.

The Olentangy River has been a lot of fun this year thus far. For all of the years that I have spent at Ohio State. I never fished the river and always opted for lakes such as Alum or Antrim. I cannot wait for a fly rod to arrive from Bass Pro to fish the Olentangy River! The last time I fished with a fly rod represented a fishing trip in Wyoming many years ago!

Maybe think about bumping that Bettlespin up in size on a stained water day like you had. Think about a full sized 3/8th ounce chartruse spinnerbait.
Olentangy smallies and chartruse spinnerbaits go together like peanut butter and jelly.
