I got a batch of wire off ebay, gave 6.00 for 10 pcs that was 24" long, have enough left for another set of 6 boards some day.

 

If you know the diameter of the wire you could probably buy a quarter pound roll of it from Netcraft.

 

Jannsnetcraft buy bottom bouncer wire and cut off short arm with the snap swivel on it . You may have to put an extra turn on loop. 25 for $11.00 make some friends and share!

 

I just did some with 19 ga stainless wire. ($6 for 30') It is stiffer than same ga galvanized. Thinner than I wanted but I think it will work just fine. I have trouble getting springs that I feel will function well. I bought a variety and will keep them on the boat. They should work but might need a rubber band assist with hard pulling baits. Best place for springs I found was old style hardware stores.
I agree with you on not liking the price of the kits.

I use the flags used utility locators. In PA we call it "PA One Call." They are required to mark existing utilities 10 days prior to any excavation work and they NEVER return to pick them up. PM me and I'll send you a few.

Go to a welding supply company, tell them you want .045 stainless TIG wire. It’s perfect to use as the wire between the rear release and spring. Buy a cabelas board equipped with tattle flag rouse as your ‘example’.

 

why not just buy them off of Offshore tackle ! Don't buy the kit just buy the parts you need to make your tattle flags work is very minimal !

 

I do not think you can purchase just the ss wire from Offshore. Plus Offshore pricing is outrageous for their parts. $3-$4 for a 75 cent spring. ONE NEW FLAG KITS ARE PRICED FROM $10-$20. I can convert a board for about $1.20
