When I was a kid our farm was along a good size stream and every spring we had people come to sucker fish. I remember one old guy said when the redbuds and dogwoods bloom it's time to catch suckers. They would catch bags full of them.
Deeper, slow, usually a bend hole with a little back wash. Only enough weight to hold bottom, two # 6 or 8 snelled hooks about 12-14 apart and half a crawler or a garden worm on each hook. Usually verry light bite....
