Why are pre rapala hot n tots such a hot and prized item? They seem to going for pretty good amounts on ebay. Almost $10 a pop in new condition.

Because they're not made anymore and it will probably cost the seller about $3-4 just to ship any lure maybe? Oh, and the higher ebay fees they charge now don't help. Really not a hot-n-tot specific issue. Tough to find ANYTHING from ebay shipped to your door for that. Especially a "hard to find" item. Regardless of what it is. What do you consider reasonable if the seller is in Florida and has an older one that you want?

The older ones different lips, color and IMO they caught fish newer one catch fish also but I still have the older ones and hate to lose one LOL I had a Rapula Orange Crawdad color that slayed the Bass lost it after a few years and when I did the color seems off a little and the bass noticed that too

Though Rapala denied it, their Original Floating Minnow had much stronger lips when the plug was made in Finland. Production moved to Ireland and then to Estonia and each move showed a diminished product. Back in my boat days we all pulled the old Storm Hot n Tots and my buds who continued after Rapala bought them all said that they were not as good.

Still have a bunch of the originals and boy did they catch walleye! Especially in Canada on our annual fishing trip. There were two rivers that empties into a bay that were closed during the spawn, so we scheduled our trip for just after they opened. We wouldn't let any other boats see that we had Hot 'n Tots tied on.

Thanks for the replies.. I agree about rapala. Their floating stick now dive to 5' or more. We used to use them a lot for bass on the grand river. Ugh. Everything gets worse. Here's a pretty lure from yesteryear on eBay. It's been up for auction for a few hours and already has 40 bids and is now over $200. Something you'd put in a display cabinet.
