What in the world is this? I loaded my boat yesterday walked around and looked at the prop on the motor and noticed this piece of white plastic showing in the gap between the prop and the housing and it was loose and kind of in the gap. Did some research on line and discovered it is called a "SLEEVE PROP BORE" from what I understand it diverts the exhaust through the prop.
and is common to loosen and cause issues with the cavitation and loose of power.
is this crazy or what? a less than $5 piece of plastic can ruin your outing?
Am I missing something here or what?
Any help would be appreciated.
thanks,
Dan

The prop bore sleeve is a plastic ring that helps to seal the leading edge of the propellor hub to the rearmost portion of the gearcase. This part helps to insure that almost all of the exhaust gases are diverted through the prop. Mercury used to machine 5 or 6 grooves into the aluminum gearcase housing to do this function & called it a labyrinth seal. The downside to the earlier design was that when the machined area was damaged there was no good way to repair that portion of the gearcase. Now with the sleeve you can simply carry a spare. Mike
