Just curious, what do you do when you catch them, release or something else;) And what about gobies, any others?

Just an FYI, if you are releasing gobies, you are breaking the law. They are an invasive species, and you are required by law to kill them if you catch them. It is also illegal to use them as bait unless that has been changed this year. I know there was some talk about amending the law to allow you to use lake caught gobies as bait, but only ones you have personally caught. Additionally, it is also illegal to kill a sheepshead and then release it. While, yeah, they are annoying to catch when fishing for other species, they do have a job in the lake's ecosystem.

we have a ritual we perform on my boat where the one that catches the gobie must rip his head from his body and offer the remains to the gulls for good luck. the sheepies we release to fight again another day. if the white perch are big enough we keep them if they are smal we kill them and feed the gulls with them also.

are people talking about the same fish. I hear people mention white perch and white bass on here often. I know I'm catching one of them and not the other. are they the same or whats the difference?

altough i target walleye and perch, i rarely complain but rather laugh when i get a sheephead because they are a fun fight. actually some days ive been known to boat so many sheephead im convinced i know just about every sheephead in the lake by name!!! sheepzillas get their picture taken and tossed back to fight again another day. smaller sheephead are just tossed back. if i get annoyed enough at them stealing my bait i will toss some white perch in the cooler and they really arent too bad of eating although yellow perch and walleye are much better. gobies are always whacked on the boat and tossed to the gulls.

sometimes when i head out to go fishing i never know where i'm going to end up.... so i throw every thing in the car....i have a little shakespeare combo ultralight... enclosed reel.... this thing bends under its own weight.... i'm sure you have all seen these little poles... best gill pole i've ever seen .... i spool it with 4lb mono... cheap stuff....

i ended up at the pier in fairport harbor.... took the bobber off and tossed it out with a part of the worm ..... few minutes later i had sheepshead.... after fighting it about 20 minutes i got it in... my buddy netted it... it was 9lbs.... it was one of best fights.... i let him go ... i handed that little pole to my buddy and said.... it's your turn!!.... that was great!....

this other time i caught a little 3 inch gobi .... once... only gobi i ever caught... wasn't happy so i left it hooked and let it out there .... few minutes later it got hit ... something took off on a run.... i set the hook and started bringing it in.... after a couple of minutes the line snapped and left me standing there in disbelief... this was my bigger pole with 12lb line... again off of fairport harbor pier....

i say they are all fun to catch.... let them all go....or keep a couple to eat and let the rest go...

i don't know much about gobi's other than they are not native.... how big can they get? .... and what do they eat? ..... if i ever catch one big enough.... can i eat it?
