Hi,

I have only been to Resthaven one time and that was to locate crappie. From what I hear, there is a ton of good bass fishing to be had there...how about crappie or big gills?

Thanks for any advice!

I have fished there a ton back about 5 years ago. I ice fished there on pond 10 on a daily basis ..The gills are small. I have caught some of the biggest crappies that I have ever seen there, they are few in numbers and big, old looking fish. There are some big channel cats there as well

Wedesday after 2 p.m. till dusk I fished Pond #8 from the shore and brought home 11 over 10 inches after sorting. Till about 6:15 p.m. I was casting a grub called a "Blue Shiner" and then switched to long poling (12 foot) with the same jig till quiting.

The crappies this week seemed to be closer to shore and next week I plan on launching the boat to check for spawing crappies. I released 41 that was under 10 inches.

Hope this helps,
JimG

Sounds like a great place. Where the heck is Resthaven and how do you get there? thanks jimspa@aol.com :)
Resthaven has several ponds, but the main pond most people fish is Pond 8. It is on Rt. 269 in Castailia, which it about 10 to 15 minutes south and west of Sandusky.

Go onto the ODNR website and look at the area map. Most of the ponds have access roads, and some do not. It is kind of cool to take a walk and fish the ponds that are off of the beaten path. You will most likely have the whole place to yourself if you do so.;) My favorite, "out of the way" ponds are pond 1 and 2. Pond one is one one side of the road ( which is now closed to vehicles year round) and pond 2 is on the other side.

Take time to check the area maps on the DNR's page and don't just fish one pond!;) Pond 8 has a boat ramp, the rest do not.
