My son just got the .50 cal Optima. The .50 cal is the most popular muzzleloader caliber. Do you have a lot of .45 cal bullets already? I would think it would not be cost effective to just change out a barrel (I also don't know if it is even an option).
i dont really know why you would even want to change to a 45. but i would suggest you contact cva and ask them. they are real helpful when you need help.
i contacted them about the minium charge of powder you could use for deer hunting keeping the shots under 50 yrds. i was told you could go as low as 60 grns but 70 would be much better. and they didnt recommend anything under 60 grns. that was with a 250 grn bullet or less than 250 grns.

have a cva accura v2 45 cal.............trust me i called alot......just go to their web sight they have lots of info and call their customer service with questions!
You do have the option of using down to a .40 caliber sabot in your .50 caliber muzzle loader. I can't speak for how it will perform but it is an option. At the expense of a spare barrel you may find it's more cost effective to just buy another rifle in .45 caliber or smaller.
