Does anyone have experience with these spoons? Janns Netcraft has them and with the average price on the Stinger Spoons being around 5 bucks. I was thinking of making my own for less that half the cost of Stingers. Janns Netcraft is recommending a number 4 treble for their 2 3/8's spoon. Is that to small of a hook?

jess, i have no experience with the pro-lines- i actually never seen/heard of them, after i post this im heading over to check them out. IMO the #4's are fine, I played around a little last year in the summer, and found that a smaller hook resulted in better hookups--the less metal in the mouth, the more solid i guess.

I even tried the single hook and that also worked.

I started using the pro-eye spoons and there blanks and stickers last year and i have done well with them... I set all mine up with 1/0 siwash hook... you cant beat the price.. get a 5 pack and split them up with another person. comes out to around $1.50 for the painted and $1 for the blanks with the hardware...... and their paint holds up well....

it is one of those apples to oranges things... some people say they lose more fish with trebles and some say the opposite.. I like the single hook as it is a longer single hook and it seems to hook deeper and there is a lot less chance of losing one at the net by catching the lure with the net..

Zero net tangles. Higher rate of hookups (some argue this point, but in my boat, I get more fish to the net with single hooks). It's also a lot easier to get a single hook out of a sheephead, or white bass/perch's mouth than a treble hook without ripping half of it's head off.
That makes a lot of sense. I'm going to order the spoons and get single hooks. Thanks everyone.

Singles are nice, that is for sure. I have friends that use both, and both defend their reasons for using singles/trebles quite well. When I purchased trebles for the Northport 100 series spoons that I bought last year, I picked up #4 VMC Barbarians.

You guys put any merit into which way the hook point hangs with a siwash? Meaning...towards the cup or away from the cup when held from the top?

A couple of my salmon fishing buds swear by the hook pointing towards the cup (bottom) of the spoon.

One thing for sure, once hooked with a single...a fish isn't coming off.

Het sold me on the single hooks two years ago. I still have some with the treble, but I would rather have the single. I can remember a white bass that had all three trebel hooks buried in its mouth. I couldn't even open its mouth to get them out. What a pain. I believe single hooks are taken deeper in the mouth, and the hook-ups are more solid, not in the lip. I also have some of those pro eye spoons, they work.

I honestly can say that I have never used the Netcraft spoons
because the stingers are so readily available. My lack of
experience on the subject of the
single vs. treble is just subject at this time, is moot.
To many people have touted single hooks as the best. I am not totally unsure of this method because
those who have posted thier preferences at this point are the
same one(s) who at some point have
to use a treble stinger on thier
jigs and use a treble on the so called open water harnesses at
the same time. How can anyone
be sure. Just be frugal and use
sources that are available and
enjoy the fishing expierences
be it shut out or a full limit
(a plus).

I've used the netcraft proeye spoons for about 4 years now. I have absolutely no problems with them. However, I use tape on them rather than to paint them. I don't have any at home right now (they're at the dock) so I can't get a pic of the ones I've made up... sorry. They work just fine though. The tape holds up great! I can go all season on 'em.

I remember watching a TV fishing show about 20 years ago that devoted a better part of the show preaching single hook vs treble hook. They had a bunch of good info ,none of which I can remember, on why you should use single hooks on spoons. I switched all mine and it worked great. Used a lot of those Needlefish that ERIE REBEL talked about for years, great spoon w/single hook. Then I got stingers and got lazy and stayed with the trebles but you guys have got me thinking again and I'm gonna start switching them to singles. Thanks. Terry

I've been using the pro eye spoons for 4 or 5 years. Both the 2 3/8 and 2 5/8". I either use the witch craft tape or paint them with Re-new-alure.
Both catch fish and it's easy to match the colors that are hot at the time.
Also paint and tape stingers when the paint comes off.

I placed my order with Janns today. I ordered 25 spoons + rings and I went with the single hook option. Thanks to all for the advice.

When you get your blanks (I think that was what you were ordering?)...be sure to check and see if they are clear coated or not. I've purchased both from Netcraft, neglecting to note whether or not they were coated.

Makes a big difference when you go to paint....

Good luck!

i was going to stay out of this thread because i believe in trebles more that the single hook and i dont want to step on anyones toes because everyone fishes differently. i tried the single hook and we had several hits that slammed down the rod towards the water and tripped the dipsy, but no hook up. you couldnt get me to use a spoon without a treble hook on it.

gene, you make a great point about stinger hooks on jigs and harnesses. i never really thought about it that way. i think its good to hear both sides;)

BFG, all the spoons I ordered are all painted. They sell them in colors similar as M. Stingers. But for future reference I will take your advice. Thanks. :T
