Health and weather led to a completion of a " wanted to do " idea. The Ruger 10/22 is probably one of the most easy to customize guns on the market. Always wanted to mount a pistol scope on one. Tandemkross came out with a 10/22 barrel named the Spitfire. I ordered one with a red shroud and silver barrel. Using mlok rails I mounted the pistol scope 2.5 X 8 Nikon Monarch. Had to grind the screws down as the shroud is only .08 thick. Idea of the pistol scope is that it allows fast target aquisition. Think squirrel hunting. Added custom trigger with 2.5 lb pull. Sank way more money in this than I would ever get out of it. I tested with rifle scope first. Shot great and since installed the pistol scope. Was able to test fire and I believe I have a winner. Nicer weather will permit final sight in. By the way the barrel is so light the whole rig is under 6 Lb.

For better understanding of why pistol scope on rifle. Google scout rifle. Basically it allows faster find of target since both eyes remain open. The off eye centers target and crosshairs already on target.

Rifle or pistol scope when mounted to shoot should give. A clear vision and full scope picture.

Pistol grip is not a disqualifier. When I was in Vietnam was assigned to test an M16 with a 3X scope. According to Cooper who was a proponent of the scout rifle system. Was of the opinion that only bolt actions qualified. Obviously the AR 15 is a semi-auto and the AR-16 is a full auto. The original Colt had a non pistol grip stock. I presently own an AR15 setup that I would call a scout rifle. 350 Legend full rail upper that permits mounting a scope of any type anywhere.

To be fair the prototype I tested in Vietnam. I did not like it. At 20 years of age then I had hawklike eyes and thought the peep sights were superior. My 77 year old eyes now need magnification. Hope this cured your fit of laughter according to your emoji.

Nice set up.

I am sorry for taking wrong way. Got a little sore because of troll on another site. Way different subject. Used to have a friend that was a cop. He often complained that he was tired of people assuming he was a weapons expert. Just because he was a cop. On this other site this guy advised for someone to talk to any cop about a self defense weapon.
I advised to not to make same mistake about any cop being an expert.
Some trolls on that site acted as if I was hating on the police. I even stated that while some may be firearms experts the vast majority of them are not. So I offer my apology for being so defensive.

No apology needed, but I do appreciate it. I understand that it's hard to tell with typing on a screen if someone's being serious or lighthearted. I'm here for the comaraderie and to maybe learn something, not to make waves or step on toes.

As far as the police and their firearms expertise... I shoot against several active and former LEO's/deputies and know several more personally. 2 of them are a handful to beat and I better be on if I'm gonna have a chance. A few are competitive and knowledgeable, most have some ability and some knowledge. Some just aren't gun people and barely shoot well enough to qualify.

hey Papa ... was killing time at my local gunshop and came across a part you might need for your project  looked like not to big of a deal, just a couple new parts for the trigger group and then you have 3 settings ... #1 is single shot ... #2 is regular semi-auto feeding, as fast as you can pull the trigger ... #3 will shoot a round when you pull and another round on return ... so almost double the firing rate if it doesn't jam :sneaky: will only set you back about $350 more 🤑

Or just have an amateur try to make a target trigger out of stock parts, make one too many file strokes and end up with a great feeling under 2 lb trigger. Breaks clean and smooth dry firing. Load a mag, take careful aim and squeeze off that first one...then it empties the mag all on its own. Not super fast, about the pace of an M2. Letting go of the trigger doesn't help either. I won't say how I know this or what parts were involved.

Don't care a whit about speed , accuracy and reliability are my only concerns. When weather breaks for a bit. Will post pix of 75 yards. It has a 2.5 # trigger in it right now which served me superbly.
