Going to take the boat tonight for the first time here. Any recommendations where I should try? Don’t really care what we catch. Might try some trolling for eyes too.

Yeah osheay won't be any better then alum. But if there's a strong chance of rain that keeps most of them away. The problem with osheay is all the weighted down wake boats and such a narrow lake(pretty much a river).
Look for flats with deep water near by an troll saugeye cranks. You have a chance at catching eyes/crappie/wipers/flathead/channel cats/bass. Watch the rain it muddy's up pretty bad.
Like mentioned Hoover is another good option but is limited horsepower. East of columbus you got buckeye but it can get tuff the further into summer we get. Same deal there as indian but less weeds. The main lake should be able to troll.
Good luck

I never troll but do fish Oshay. I would think trolling anywhere near the shorelines would get you immediately snagged-worse as you fish up the lake. But there are old roadbeds in the southern no wake zone you could probably troll.

A few years ago, I caught a ton of nice saugeyes while bass fishing. I’m sure there is a good population but it would not be my choice for saugeye. I’d go fish Pleasant Hill or Alum.

Ill be curious to see if the Saugeye fishing improves at OShay now that they are stocking double the amount of S-eye they used to (they are stocking all the S-eye they used to stock in Griggs in Oshay in addition to what they already had). I have had conversations with individuals who said that it used to be a much better S-eye fishery back in early 2000's, not sure what changed.

My insight, for what it’s worth, is that numbers are way down in O’Shay. This is a direct correlation to the dam improvements made the last few years. My perspective is that many fish (including wipers) have ended up in Griggs. This coupled with decreased stockings during this period have contributed to the issue. The ODNR recognized the issue, and increased the stocking program to adjust this issue as they should. I network with multiple guys that fish Griggs as well as O’Shay and this is a shared perspective based on numbers of fish being caught in both locations. O’Shay was / is a hidden gym for Crappie, Saugeye and Wipers. I cannot tell you the amount of really quality eyes that I personally caught out of O’Shay in the late 90’s and early 2000’s. Concentrated areas there have simply ceased. Since Saugeye are a put / take fish, I believe a quick rebound will happen the next 2 years. Crappie numbers have also been down. There is a cause / effect reason.

Makes sense, unfortunately. If you fish over there in the near future - let me know and I'd really like to pick your brain. This is my first year fishing O'Shay and it would be great to get some insight from someone who has history over there. Like I said - I would love to be on the saugeye within 15 min of leaving my house...high hopes!
