I was cruising along yesterday on erie put my motor to idle and it shut off immediately....would not restart....ended up trolling in with the bow mount about a 1/2 mile out. When I pulled the boat or it was leaking oil out from the area....what is going on here? How screwed am I?

almost sounds like a pin or some thing sheered off in the gear selector and bound causing some thing in there to break take it apart
How did you come to that conclusion based on the first post? I couldn't even figure out what the problem was.

When I got the boat on the trailer it was leaking oil from the prop area.....cranks but no start
Some oil from the prop exhaust is normal. Not a lot, but some.

Agree...maybe you just never noticed it before???

Even so, an oil leak in the prop area should have no effect on starting...unless something broke and it was stuck in gear. Even then your neutral safety switch should prevent it from cranking.

If it cranks I think your non-starting problem and oil leak(if you indeed have one) are non-related.

Could you give more info on both problems?

Ya.....sorry about the grammar....stupid swype.....so after work I had to do some tinkering.....i walk up to the boat and it starts first crank.....i don't like that.....now I'm worried about going far.....anyway here is a pic of where it is leaking or seeping

Hard to tell anything from that pic but here's a theory:

For whatever reason....motor was getting flooded with fuel or just stalls for some unknown reason and gets flooded when you try to start it. Excess unburnt fuel is spit out the thru hub exhaust while cranking while flooded, with some coming out where you see it because of the excess.

Motor sits awhile and then starts fine.

How were you running the motor before it stalled...full throttle???idling???

May just be a one time occurence and you may be just fine.....then again I'm not the one getting stranded on Erie if it happens again. ;)

when you but it in neutral where was the rpms high or low but it does sound like a carb issue flooding float stuck open or a cylinder down or not firing prop doesnt sound to serious pull the bowl off the carb and make shure its good and not full of fuel or rotted out depends on float get it running and spray a healthy amount of carb cleaner through it hope it helps
