they are calling for south southwest winds Sunday. 13/15 mph w/. Gusting to 20... I'm the past I've found those to be good conditions "near shore" but NOAA is calling for 4-6 feet Saturday night subsiding to 3'-5' ? I assume that's it's howling good enough to keep the fish outta reach regardless.... aaauugggh.

There are two marine forecasts by noaa, Offshore and Nearshore, you are probably looking at the Offshore forecast. Depending on where and how far from shore you fishing, depends on which one you should heed, I check them both:

1. http://forecast.weather.gov/shmrn.php?mz=lez165, Offshore forecast LAKE ERIE OPEN WATERS FROM VERMILION TO AVON POINT OH- 944 AM EST SAT NOV 12 2016 (beyond 5 miles of shore) is: SUNDAY.... WEST WINDS 15 TO 25 KNOTS BECOMING SOUTHWEST. WAVES
4 TO 6 FEET SUBSIDING TO 3 TO 5 FEET.

2. http://tgftp.nws.noaa.gov/data/raw/fz/fzus51.kcle.nsh.cle.txt,
NEARSHORE MARINE FORECAST NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE CLEVELAND OH (within 5 miles of shore) CLEVELAND OH 938 AM EST SAT NOV 12 2016
SUNDAY...SOUTHWEST WINDS 10 TO 20 KNOTS. SUNNY. WAVES 2 TO
4 FEET SUBSIDING TO 1 TO 3 FEET.

Depending on which way the wind is blowing and the locations of the forecast you will see some big differences.

If your going to fish near shore use 2, if in doubt use 1 in this example.

Also big waves 4' last longer than the wind that creates it, I call it LE slosh, so just because the wind is 13/15 mph does not mean the waves will subside right away.

Check the webcams before you leave. http://www.earthcam.com/usa/ohio/cleveland/?cam=pierw

Thanks, but if you click on nearshore noaa is calling for wave height to build to 4-6' overnight prior to subsiding. That's the mystery, it's gotta be freakin howling for an Offshore wind to build 4'-6'. To respond to another poster , I'm going! Plan A: Lorain / Vermillion or Huron pending morning Actual conditions. Plan B, steel head fishing east 72 by the wall. I figure at a minimum I should be able to do that even if NOAA is right and I'm following the logic it's not and I wind Surf is.....

Yea im just as confused iwind surf says its a go 12 mph w to sw picking up to 15 mph, sounds 2 footers or, noaa nearshore says 4 to 6 ft. Im going to launch 72nd see how it is, clevelands got protection from west winds while vermillion to avon doesnt, and that is part of the area coverd in the noaa forecast. Maybe 4 to 6 from vermilion to avon, anything east of avon point should be 2 to 3 i would think. Just my opinion, theres always inside the brwakwall out of cleveland too.
