CORTLAND, Ohio (WKBN) – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources has issued a water advisory for Cortland’s Mosquito Lake, according to the Ohio Department of Health’s website.
According to the department of health, a beach with a water advisory has a level of bad bacteria in the water that has reached unsafe levels and could make swimmers sick.
Advisories mean children, the elderly and those in ill health or weakened immune systems are advised not to swim, the web site states.

If I had to guess I would say it has something to do with the big clumps of grass that were floating around. All that grass got ripped from the bottom and is starting to decay. I know it happens in the southern swamps after a hurricane. The leaves blow off of trees in the water and decay causing poor water conditions.

Like it or not.....it's Mother Nature doing what she does to deal with man...and her own natural events.

Pure sand beaches rarely have these issues because sand does not harbor/breed bacteria the way clay/mud/dirt/sand beaches do.

Get used to it. This issue is not going away.

Most septic tanks over flow around the lake after big rains and eventually find there way to the lake. I have a updated sand filter I was forced to install, but my neighbors are still grandfathered. I live 500 yards from the lake and when it rains I can smell the neighbors septic flowing down the creek towards mosquito. This would Def not help the situation. Just saying
