Hello everybody. I recently moved to Mantua. I have the cuyahoga river just down the road from me. I fished it for a bit just to try it but the current was very fast and the river was full of leaves that were falling. I want to try it again but I need to know what fish are in there..Has anybody fished it and know whats in there. The part of the cuyahoga is on route 82 as you leave mantua and heading to Hiram..Any local knowledge would be appreceated before I fish it again..Thankyou..

I haven't fished there for years, but, it is prime Northern Pike water. My best was 36 inches, but larger ones have been caught. Also Largemouth, Carp, Crappie. I'm sure some of the other guys here will give you better info. It is the nicest, most scenic stretch of river I've ever fished. We would launch a small boat or canoe at Eldon Russell Park on Rapids Rd. and fish down to Rt. 422 and back.

dmc1966...Mike003,,, knows I too have not fished it for several years...You can catch about anything in there that you want too..Nice smallmouth call it home as well...You will loose a lot of tackle there is a lot and I mean a lot of snags in the river...I used to cast a lot of in line spinners and lost a lot...Where there were snags last year may not be there this year due to the river flow when we get a lot of rain...All you can do is try it.....Good Luck.....JIM.....

I am from Streetsboro, and grew up in Mantua. I fish the Cuyahoga a ton in the spring and early summer. I've got some great honey holes. We catch alot of pike, smallmouth, largemouth, bluegills, crappies, a few yellow perch, carp, bullheads. I fish it Burton all the way down to Cuyahoga Falls. But hit me up w/ a private message and I can definitely give you some great stretches of river to fish in the Mantua area and other spots if you like as well. I have a few pics from the most productive stretch of river I fish in Shalersville area. Still waiting to get most my pics outta storage, will post more then. But there are pics of 2 smaller pike and 2 small smallmouth we caught 1 day in May.These are just lil guys, The fish get alot bigger, I'll prove it once I get my pics back. Also got some great bass fishing spots in Streetsboro if you're interested, send me a PM. I'll hook you up.

I haven't fished that stretch of the Hoga, but I've found drifting a minnow or half a night crawler through a whole to be effective. Set up shallow to avoid the snags then go deeper if needed. Also like beetle spins. They don't hang up as much as other baits. Use a salt & pepper color twister tail on the end.
