I just don't understand how a Rowing Regatta can cause half a lake (East Fork) to be put off limits to the paying public? It stinks that a group can come in 3 or 4 times a year and take control over people who use the lake all year long. How much gas, snacks, and fishing supplies do they put in those rowing boats anyway?

As a guy who doesn't have a (motor)boat I don't see why this is a big deal - you can still get to the other half of the lake in places where the shore guys can't. Try paddling a kayak or canoe on the lake while getting hit with wake and then you'll see why they do this. Besides, being on a small man-powered boat is peaceful and doesn't foul up the water or scare the fish away as easily.

Economic inpact?? You bet..My wife's company had National Committee
meetings the past week,Hotels where booked.Have you ever looked at the busess that show up and see where they are from. For 2 weekends of the year or maybe 3 is no big deal.Having lived across the street from EastFork for the past 16 years, and fishing the lake,I plan around it..U.C.,,N.K.U ,,along with New Richmond High School have rowing teams.I like going over and checking it out. They close the river a few times a year for the hydro plane races and the EBN fireworks...

I know what you are saying Kycrappie- As taxpayers and outdoorsmen who pay their share of keeping places like East Fork going, what gives the ODNR the right ??? Basically I really do not know... People don't mind it BUT I'll put it this way fellows.... What if they decide to close the ramps like they do and half the lake for a few weeks for a big event like this ??? What if Ohio decides to hold NUMEROUS events like this on say 20 diffrent lakes for the sake of getting money pumped into Ohio's terrible economy ? Just because it's done ONLY down here in the SW @ East Fork still doesn't mean it should be taken lightly .....What if they closed Lake Erie for say 3 miles of its shores 5 miles out ??? Then you would hear people bitchin for sure.... The fact of the matter is they shouldn't be able to close RAMPS for this event , maybe bouy off a section of the lake , but close alot of the ramps ??? CATKING :)

Remember this a corp of engineers lake. This lake and land is leased to the Ohio State parks. It is run by the park manager and his boss in Columbus, OH. Economic impact...maybe a little but not enough to make a difference to Clermont County. It is who you know. Put em on Cowan or Stonelick....trolling motor only lakes.... They still need their course blocked off, so they can race. If you want to cause a stir...get a bunch of guys together and go to Cowan.....power your boats by (electric) to the sailboat course, and Block it......you have just as much right as them to be on the water. They are there every Sat and Sun. Cowan should be an idle only lake for big motors. It is only because of the sailing assoc. that the state will not allow it. Who is in the sailing assoc? Higher ups....It is who you know. Those who hold the money...hold the power. Judges are bought daily....same as politicians. Who donates to their campaign funds? That is who gets favors returned.......to them. If you dont think it happens......you are not only wrong.. you are at a loss. This country has always been run that way!

What if I am anchored...due to the fact I cant get my motor started... any sail boat t boning me...is in for a world of hurt....I know what the laws say about right of way....my point was more towards the higher ups. The sailing assoc. is there because of higher ups.... just like the rowing is on the Corp lake...higher ups. Catking...not sure what you were saying in you last comment.

catking you are right. my wife and i went to eastfork this weekend to camp. first i was upset about the regatta and then to learn that the camp ramp was open to the public because of the regatta. then to top it off there was a crappie tournament this weekend. so too put it short and sweet , i paid 56 dollars to camp for two days and had too share the ramp with about fifty other boaters who just drove in with no charge too them. it really put me over the edge with eastfork. this is the third time this year we had to deal with regatta. i know they have a right but half the lake, come on.

To all,

This rowing regatta has been going on for years...You must get over it..Yes it is a inconvenience....However you still have the lake 49 weeks out of the year...If you pay attention you know months before the rowing starts..Sorry to all of you who encounterd our youth who participate in a sport that involves boating, water and not fishing......Oh...bye the way..My boat has no ores.

If they can close the lake for this why dont they close half the lake for fishing tourneys. shure would be nice to fish a tourney without the jet skis and pleasure boats. Ithink this was only one time a year but now it is four times a year.best bet is to load up and go south where the fishing is good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If the state park user fee had of flew they wouldn`t have to rent out the park.
The part that chaps me is that it`s the best few weeks for fishing of the year. They could have it in the middle of summer then I could care less.Do they rent the park out and close the lake for anyone else???Do other ohio state parks close for privet events???There are lakes with no motors aloud it would be smart for them to move to one of the restricted lakes.

What would stop someone from asking them to close half the lake for a fishing tournament? I don't fish there much (mostly due to the boat traffic), but the principle is the same...as someone said earlier. this could get out of hand and during the prime fishing season no less!!

I would be up for it, just to make a point and yank someone's chain :D

I am curious what the response would be and what process/hoops we would have to go through to get the lake closed for a fishing tournament.

I know, It makes no sense at all. I thought the lake was for the public? It would be nice if they did close some lake to crazy skidooer's I cann't stand them. But if your fishing you should have full use of the lake. you help payh for it my more than some row boater.

So now if we don't agree with closing half the lake three times a year(which in Ohio except for a hearty few does not leave 49 weeks because we have winter) we don't care about children!
I do agree that rowing is a great sport, but just think three out of the ten best fishing weekends of the year is too much to take away!

BTW I don't hate children! :D
