Heritage Park...GMR access?

Is Heritage Park on the GMR (Colerain) open? Does anyone know if you can park there all night? I’m looking to do some catfishing in the area, and will be floating down from Knights Bridge Dam. Also, anyone ever get any “decent” smallies from this area? I’m trying to decide if it is worth bringing a bass rod along for the trip to the catfish hole. While I’m at it, I thought that there was another new access point in the area? Thanks!

Yeah, it's open. Lots of bank area, But the gate is locked at dark. I have gone and scouted the area, there is a series of exposed gravel bars (think islands) midway through the river. Very very shallow on the park side. Almost all of the current/depth is on the opposite bank. The canoe launch in the park is nothing more than a concrete ramp down to a very shallow section on the back of one of these gravel bars. You must carry your canoe/kayak through the woods about 100 or so feet from the parking lot to get to the ramp. Makes you wonder why they built a ramp when you have to carry your stuff throught the woods to get to it. There is one hole across and up river from the ramp, looks like a good carp hole, maybe catfish, It has a small cement wing dam on the opposite bank. Lots of carp and gar visible in this hole. Next is down river from the ramp, around the first bend. The current cuts across the river and creates a small eddy and possibly a deep area after the riffles. You could fish off of a sand bar into the eddy/slow section of the river. Couldn't tell you depth in the area, but it doesn't look like much at any point behind the park.

Thanks for the information!

It looks like I will need to find another spot to take-out. I need a spot where I can park overnight.

Shuvlhed- I think that you know the hole that I’m trying to fish…I have not been back there since they started locking the gate!

went by dravo about a month ago at 3am and it was still open, you could take out there probably. i used to canoe and fish that area years back for big cats, it gets slammed too hard now (as well as the paranoia about nightfishing having the parks closed at dusk) so i dont bother driving down that far.

I don't know about the parking situation but the Cincypaddlers float the GMR from Heritage Park to Dravo Park every Thursday evening. It might be worth going along to scout the area. They shuttle each other back and forth so it makes it easy on solo paddlers. I don't know much more about them, I was going to go tonight but I just made plans to tear up a buffet somewhere.

Some of their trips look interesting. They don't seem to do any fishing but you could use their trips to find new fishing spots. I'm sure you could also throw a line in while they are playing in the WW holes too.
