Was out fishing north of the stadium Wednesday night when a goliath fish stole my rod right off the boat! Bite was slow so rods were just sitting inside the boat right after sunset when one rod literally was yanked off the boat and into the water in a split second! I've never seen that happen lol. The rod basically summersaulted off the side. Long story short if anyone catches a giant fish with a rod with a green jig attached to it, it's mine lol. Was on the bottom, probably a big cat. Before that, we were catching decent perch and baby walleyes with just a colored jig hook and worms. About 35 fow

Did the same two weeks ago. We both jumped for the rod. Wife took the worst hit. Slipped and fell, clipping a glass which we usually never have onboard - 16 stitches just below her pretty lil behind! Sooo, if anybody snags an old Skyline graphite baitcaster....

I once lost a rod overboard at Mosquito while drifting. Threw out the anchor, tied on a Sonar(if you've used one, you know they grab onto anything on bottom!), started casting upwind, letting it sink to bottom and reeling/dragging it back slowly. Hooked the rod, reeled it up slowly, then proceeded to wind in a(all of two pounds!) common carp! Wanted to make one of those insurance ad wall "mounts" but released it unharmed![emoji4][emoji4]

Many years ago we were fishing for walleye on lake erie on a charter boat. Wife was sitting on the engine cover holding her rod and the captain said he was going to put out a bottom bouncer. He put it out and laid it on the engine cover beside my wife and ask her to keep an eye on it. Well she did keep an eye on it as it went over the side.

Years ago, while fishing Olcott in the fall for kings on the pier, old buddy was using the 'bottle' method and didn't leave the bail open. To make a long story short, the bottle dropped and WHEW! That rod shot into the river like a rocket! Never seen a pole take off like that in my life. We both sat there in shock before cracking another beer lol.

We were spring jigging in the spring on the Sassy Sal a few years ago then someone hooked a rod. They brought it up to the boat, and sure enough, there was still a walleye attached! I posted about it here on OGF and the guy who initially lost the rod replied saying he had lost his rod that a monster walleye tore out of his hand. The fish was only 24in or so, but still pretty crazy that we caught his rod with the fish still attached!

last summer at westbranch I had my cat rod go into the lake. after twenty minutes of scraping a branch in the water I went in after it. I had a large bobber on so I could see that the fish was still on...so I swam out and grabbed the bobber then swam back to where I could stand and pulled the fish in. 7 and a half pound channel. then back out to the water and pulled my rod back in...suffix fishing line good stuff. all this I got on my phone lol. one day ill try to upload the video.

Last winter my brother in-law and I were fishing from a small boat for Spanish mackeral on the Gulf coast canals. Useing live shrimp and a bobber. He laid his rod across the gunwales to get a drink and a fish hit his shrimp so hard I saw the rod take off like a rocket. We kept following the bobber for an hour or so but each time we approached the fish would dive. I still won't let him live that one down! Those fish hit do hard even when you're holding the rod they about jerk it out of your hands.

Fishing a up ground reservoir with plenty of rocks to wedge a rod down between them. I set up the rod to hold only the reel and handle. I was setting up the 2nd rod and in the corner of my eye I saw the other rod bent in half. It was something huge! Before I could put the 2nd rod down and get over to that rod, the rock that had held the reel and handle rolled off. It was like a giant spring. It hit the water about 10 ft out. All I saw was a trail of air bubbles!

I was fishing a pond once and set out a catfish rod on a bobber, opened the spool and left it to go cast for some bass. When i went back the rod was gone. As i was sitting there in disbelief, I noticed the bobber about 2 feet under the water going back and forth.. snaged the line, pulled the rod up and about a 4 pound channel cat was attached. Last time I ever left a rod unattended on purpose! My girlfriend always yells at me when I set a rod down in the boat, she always says a fish is going to grab that and yank your rod in, she's probably right

My friends rod got pulled in off the Fairport short pier, steelhead pulled it in, landed 15 ft from pier. The look on his face was priceless, he said that fish had to be over 10 lbs to take a rod that fast. He was complaining that his wife was going to be pissed, she just bought him the combo 2 weeks before. About 10 minutes later a guy up the pier is fighting a fish, we notice another line when it jumps and think it has tangled with my friends rod, we bet the fish for him and the fish actually hit another jig while pulling my friends rod, both jigs in its mouth. That 10 lb steelhead was only 19".

Was fishing Lake St Clair a number of years ago and one of my buddies caught an expensive spinning rod & reel. Back at the boat ramp later I heard a guy in the boat ahead of us griping about losing his favorite spinning rig. We asked him what he lost and he described my buddies catch right down to the lure that was on it. The look on his face when we produced his rig out of the bottom of our boat was priceless....
