What brand of electric fillet knife do you guys recommend? I had two of the Rapala's die on me last weekend. I've got a mister twister also but I don't really like it because the cord gets in the way. Anyone have any suggestions as to what I might buy that will last for a while.

I've been using a Black & Decker that I got at Wally world a few weeks ago for $9.86. Previously had been using an American Angler but it finally bit the dust. While I liked/prefer the American Angler, for a third of the price, i'll probably stick with the B&D for now.

a gentleman at the fish cleaning station this past weekend had two american angler knives which flew through limits of eyes and perch all weekend. once one would start to warm up to the touch, he would switch to the other to avoid overheating. (just a thought for any electric knife so you don't burn one up)

i have 2 proctor and gamble carving knifes that i had to buy at wall mart last year because i forgot my american angler knifes. and they didnt have anything elce, and they was only like 9.00 each. they work better than any of the regular fillet knifes i have used so far. and i have used a bunch. the american angler has been the best of the regular fillet knifes so far. i have used the mr twister,s and some saltwater knife and a cabelas and a few more. and whatever you do dont get the ones that will work off 110v or 12v. they dont have enough power for nothin.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I noticed that the American Angler MT3 has been discontinued plus those are about $80-$90. That Mister twister Piranha for about $35-$40 might be the ticket. Maybe get a B&B from wally world to use as a relief every couple fish.

I have both the American Angler (lastest production-made in USA) and the Mister Twister. I didn't care for the straight blade on the MT so I adapted the curved AA to fit. Both do a fine job but the new AA is a smoother running motor and drive system IMO.

The knife I've been using seems like the blades need to be sharpened. Anyone have any luck sharpening those serrated blades???
Serrated knife blades and gut hooks are sharpened differently than straight blades. Flat sharpening stones must not be used on them. You’ll need a specially-made, cone-shaped taper sharpener to get serrations. These often come with diamond layers, and they’re specifically designed to get inside each serration. I got mine at a Sears store a few years back. http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_SPM240913677P

They are made in different sizes.
