Chubs are very good when the water is cold. They have a very mild flavor. We just scale, gut and fry. Try em, you will like em....

 

Where you finding the chubs? riffles? pools?

 

Found them in a pool with the gills and crappies in Canal Fulton Area. Used a vibe lure to catch them.

 

Tried my luck again today and got 2 small mouth bass and let an undersized one go. Also got 5 decent size chubs, looks like I will be trying them out.

 

I've never met anyone who eats chubs before. I actually ate one once, just to try it, as I caught it when I was rounding up a mess of sunfish. I fried it in the pan with the sunnies. It wasn't bad; for such a soft fish while alive, the cooked meat was surprisingly firm. The only problem was the bones.

 

Well the chub experiment is over and while the meat was pretty tasty, the effort was really not worth it. There were so many bones and I have never seen so many bones in a fish ever. From now on I will catch them for fun only and not waste any time with trying to make a meal from them.

 

I fish the Tusc all the time but I'd never eat anything out of it!!! I heard someone once say, " I wouldn't even poop in that river"

 

use 'em for bait. saugeyes and pike love 'em.

 

They used to sell smoked chubs in the grocery store. Can't say when I last saw them there.

Can't believe they hit a vibee! We used jig/maggots.
