Was there for a week several years ago. Didn't have any luck surf fishing, but did catch fish around the bridges using live shrimp.
We were there in the middle of the summer, things may be different in the spring.

Shark fishing at night off the beach can be a hoot if you have the right equipment.
*Just like catfishing but with better gear.

Snook should be around lit docks and a few may be in the inlets.
* Use Bomber long a's, yozuri pin minnows, doa shrimp in glow color, live pin fish, ladyfish, finger mullet.

Redfish will be around mangroves and oysterbeds.
doa shrimp (natural colors) the darker the water gets the darker your lure should be. little cleo 1/3 in gold, soft stick baits like the gulp in pearl w/dark back. live shrimp

trout grass flats and deep holes during low tide.
*live shrimp or small pin fish, paddle tail jigs in white, pink, rootbeer.

Sheephead (not the same as we have in ohio) Great to eat and will be
around rock structure inshore and off shore.
* live shrimp or fiddler crabs. sheephead will steal your bait every time if you don't fish with a light weight like a splitshot or a egg sinker that you can feel the bite matched up with a #1 to a 1/0 circle hook. I like cutting the shrimp to just the size of the hook it they are hitting short.

The beach may give up a few pompano, whiting and silver trout.
*Live shrimp, sand fleas and small pompano jigs in white, pink or chartruse

It's been years, but I fished the beach opposite Tween Waters Inn with live shrimp on a sliding egg sinker rig. Cast out and dragged it back slowly. No shrimp went untouched. Mostly small Jack Crevalle, plus Ladyfish, Whiting, Sea Trout, Gafftop Sail Cats, and Hardhead Cats. I didn't know about Snook then. At dawn they could be right against the beach. Lots of Stingrays, shuffle your feet.

I have fishing Ding Darling a few years ago. Off shore fishing is rough. You use to pay $5.00 to go in. It's more of a state park & wildlife refuge. A lot of bird watchers. You have various places along the road that you can pull over & fish. When I was there the Red tide was in full swing. Fishing usually sux , during that period. When fishing salt you have to pay attention to the tides. We saw more alligators then nice fish. It's a beautiful area though.

Sister lives right down the street. You can rent kayaks from Tarpon bay. I catch alot of mangrove, snook and sheeps in the Mangrove Kayak passage which is to the left of the doc. "where all the bird watchers go. If you want to catch trout go to the right and fish about 150 yards from the shore shore once you can't see the botton start fishing that whole shoreline always holds trout. Try shrimp under a cork you can buy them there.or cast plugs like gulp jigs or Zera spooks. You won't be diasappointed. The beach can be hit or miss depending on water clarity. Have fished in DIng but its also hit or miss. bring your federal duck stamp and you can get in free.
