Hi all, this is my first post here. I have been reading for a while, lots of great info. I recently got my first boat (older trihull with a 115 johnson and an electric trolling motor. I have been to Caesars a few times this year and have had fun, but would really like to try some new things. Up till now i have mainly been using a roadrunner jig with night crawlers, casting out and bouncing back. Have caught some crappie, bass, whitebass, saugeye, and sheepshead. Next time out i was going to try and figure out this old fish finder and try to find some hidden structure to crappie fish with more of a vertical jigging technique. I have been putting in at the Hanes Boat Ramp, and staying on that side of the bridge. Are there any good spots south of the bridge? Any tips for what to look for on the fish finder?

In addition, I would not mind trying some trolling (mainly for crappie, but I was also thinking of getting some planar boards so i could practice for when i head to lake st clair to try for some walleye. ) Anyone have any tips for either application?
Thanks!, just hope i have time to get out there soon.

Brush and stumps. I had some luck at the north end by the creek channel and timber where the lake narrows. Also, I have termed ceasars the dead sea. It can try your ability sometimes. That said I have pulled a very large smallmouth or two trolling shad raps etc on points near the damn twenty foot down. Got hit when it bumped bottom. Dipsy divers are coming to my boat soon. That small mouth got released by the way, it had an old hook scar in the back under the fin like it was a minnow bait once. deserved to be free.

Thanks for the info, much appreciated. Still headed out tommorow ill let you know how it goes.

I took a peek, i have a Humminbird Wide One Hundred mounted on the transom (display by the steering wheel), and a Eagle Accura 240 on the trolling motor. Looks like both are pretty old. Anyone familiar with either of these?

Well got out on the water around 8 and fished till 3 or so. Tried to go for crappie in the morning so attempted to troll with my new 10' rod using a road runner with a grub. Didnt take long untill i had a decent sized saugeye, maybe 14"? Then shortly after I caught a largemouth bass on the same setup. Then finally had a good sized crappie. Guess i need a new trolling motor batery though because after about 45 min it was dead... So wasted about 3 hours in the coves with no luck, then caught a sheep's head on a road runner with night crawler. After that went back to where i caught the first crappie and caught about 5 more crappie (3 keepers), 2 small saugeye, and on my last cast i caught a small catfish. (all using a roadrunner with night crawler.)

Thanks for the tips, i did well around the campground. So, how long should a trolling motor run on a good battery anyway?

So all in all had fun being out on the water and trying new spots and techniques. Here are some pics.

Well got out on the water around 8. Tried trolling first with my new 10' rod to find some crappie. Used some grubs on a roadrunner jig. First got about a 14" saugeye, then a largemout bass. (Guess im not so great at targetting crappie :). Then got a good sized crappie finally. Shortly after my trolling motor battery was dead so decided to anchor in the coves which wasted about 3 hours with only a sheepshead to show. After that went back to where i was trolling around the campgrounds and jigged along a ledge with a roadrunner tipped with night crawlers. Got 5 more crappie (3 keepers), 2 small saugeye, and on my last cast of the day caught a catfish.. (that is the 4th catfish i have caught on jigs with night crawlers in a week. Caught 3 when i was visiting family in Georgia.)

Just curious, my troller motor was on half speeed for about an hour, then was dead. is this normal or is my battery getting weak?

At any rate, had alot of fun, thanks for the tips, the camground area has alot of contour i never knew about. Here are some pics.
