It's unfortunate that bass pro is modeling Cabela's after bass pro . If they were smart it would be the other way around .
I haven't bought anything from bass pro in 5 plus yrs but I spend plenty of money at Cabela's . I'll leave it up to them on where I spend my money from now on . But if they turn into just another bass pro it won't be with them .

Who bought who? Who was financially struggling? I think Bass Pro has the better business model. They might not be what "we" want, but it obviously works from a profit standpoint. Guns, ammo, reels, and Rods don't pay the bills...clothes and shoes drive the margin. At the end of the day all they care about is profit!

I haven't bought a ton of stuff from the bargain cave but I always check it out. I buy a lot from the bargain cave online though. Wonder if they are going to get rid of that also? I don't mind bass pro but they never put stuff on sale like Cabela's did in the bargain cave. I agree other than that everything else is overpriced.

Wheeling WV Bargain Cave is closing too. I work close by and stop in a couple times a week during lunch; I've gotten to know the employees there. Cave employees are being reassigned throughout the store. There is not a 20% off discount yet in Wheeling.

I'm not happy with the Bass Pro model; when I walked into Cabela's last week I thought I entered J.C. Penny's, simply overpriced clothes everywhere. Other than a few rare purchases from the cave, my visits were to mostly look. It's nice to put your hands on items you may want then come home and shop the best deal.

I'll still go and mostly look, but I feel like I'm in a tourist trap.

MikeG1 I agree on the “tourist trap” comment you’re correct. We stopped in one on our way to Saskatchewan last year. Have gift cards to spend when those are gone I’ll be visiting nothing but local shops or like you said look for best deal on the internet.

Yes unfortunate , loved the cave.. Bass pro branded items suck compared to Cabelas branded stuff. I asked the sales person the other day about honoring the lifetime warranty on the cabelas stuff, she said we don't know but, the look on her face said it all

I asked about the warranty when I was at the Dundee store this passed week. If it's no longer made and they can't replace it if you have your receipt they will refund your money. If you don't have your receipt they will refund the lowest sale price they have had on it in the past. Dundee bargain cave is not closing there are 21 caves staying open as of now. Dundee is one of them.

Really like the response to this closure and the decision to shop locally. Too much purchasing at the Big Box Stores which resulted in the loss of local shops and bait stores. Everyone looking for the lowest price instead of being willing to spend a little more and support the local independent stores.

Hoffman Estates, IL.

They had 2 on the shelf for 2 different prices and I asked to see both, then asked if they were the same, why the 2 different prices so they said we will sell them for the lower. $380. then the green "C" was 20% off and the Special sale was 20% off so they were 40% off 380 which was a deal I could not pass up.

That's actually a great idea, that I hadn't thought of - at least from the store's perspective. It'll get people to go to the respective departments to look at the bargain items. They probably noticed how many (myself included) came in, went straight to the bargain cave, and back out of the store.

In my opinion, it’s when you can’t find anyone to answer questions about items they are selling. When they have no information about our local waters we fish. They cannot suggest what color baits are hot because they do not have time to talk fishing and ask others what’s working so they could pass that info along. Again just my opinion, I’ll shop where I want and everyone is free to shop where they want. I just prefer the small local tackle shops with personal service.

I usually get a 10% off offer from Cabelas once a month (usually a Tuesday) for online purchases. Dicks is suppose to have an in store buy 5 get 5 free clearance lures starting Thursday.

Bad news that the bargain cave is closing. My most recent purchase was a fenwick rod for $30.00. The tip was broken off, and it was in a plastic bag taped to the rod. I pitched that and installed a new eyelet on the tip, and there I have a 100 dollar rod for $35.00. Plus, it saved me the trouble of breaking off the tip myself, usually takes me a couple months to do that.
