Barometer readings and the fish

I stopped by some bank fisherman on Indian Lake yesterday and one of them was talking about how the fishing is affected by barometric pressure. I've done some research on the internet and learned that there's not a lot of scientific information on the subject. Supposedly lower pressure makes a fish's air bladder expand and causes the fish to compensate for the discomfort by moving deeper in the water column instead of feeding. Anyone have reliable experience with how the barometer readings impact fishing?

It’s interesting for sure. In one way or another a lot of people use barometric pressure, some without realizing it. Hear a lot of people talk about blue sky versus cloudy days and pre and post front days. Cloudy and prefrontal days are supposed to be low or falling pressure days. Better fishing days? Also hear a lot about the lunar phases. Personally, you gotta be able to catch fish to have a solid theory. I have no theory. HA!

Here's how I go about it. I have 2 young kids, both in sports. But to young to be home alone. I work 45-55 hours a week 1st shift m-f, wife works 8-midnight m-f.
So when I get a chance to go fishing I go.
Some conditions can be better then other conditions. I dont pay much attention to the barometer. But I do know in the past,I've stayed at home on days I could of gone thinking conditions were not right. Only to find out the bite was insane . So I dont let that happen anymore.

Now to the person who can pic and choose there days to fish thru out the week. Learning to pattern the weather and how fish react to can really pay off. But your still gonna have those skunky days every now an again when it seems things are perfect.....

I'm in the same boat, between work and kids , I fish when I can fish, damn the torpedoes full speed ahead. That being said I generally know if its blue bird sky's, my expectations are not that high. One exception to this is sometimes river smallmouth, I have had some of my best days in high pressure blue bird days, I don't think the rivereen fish care as much about the high pressure as the lake fish do.
