I've never used a baitcaster reel. I bought a Daiwa Triforce S153b on ebay for $8.50. There are 3 adjustments on it. Stardrag - I know how that works. Left side has a dial from 0 -10 not sure what that controls. Right side has a small dial that I'm not sure what that does either. I'm thinking the left side dial controls spool tension on cast? right knob?

If I'm not mistaken one is drag, one is main spool tension ( right side) and left dial is for even finer adjustments on spool tension. Again I'm no expert but I believe that's what it is

Here is a good tutorial on setting up and useing a new baitcaster, Youtube to the rescue-again. It is my goto place to find out stuff I need to know. When you start cast out a good distance or attach your line to a solid object and walk away 20 to 30 yards or so. Take some electrical tape a couple inches long and put it on the line in the spool and reel in the line you have out. This will help you from having any really bad overruns instead of the entire reel you only nest a few yards.
hope this helps

The one on the left is the magnetic cast control. The higher the number the more the braking. The right one is spool tension. It's actually a cap over the end of the spool shaft. When you tighten it, it squeezes on the end of the spool shaft, making the spool more resistant to spinning.
