anyone go by here today? how's it looking?
I was out this morning, and left there at about 11AM. Did a circuit around the lake.
There is one channel open that starts off at the point just south of the 'pier', not too wide. It's really shallow for a long ways out and the channel goes all through to the other side.
Water is flowing IN to the lake from the Olentangy through the drain pipe, so there's a big open spot there. I called the Parks folks to let them know, because I was under the impression that water can only go out and not flow in. Expecting a call back.
There's still snow on the south bank, and it's still frozen with lots of ice almost to the bank. Open along the north bank and west bank (towards the north end), though not too much. It's really shallow wherever there is open water and the farthest the ice is from the banks (except the drain area and channel) is about 15 feet - North end.
Other than that it's still iced up, but very patchy and thin in most places. Should be all open by tomorrow morning.
I spent couple of hours there and the Olentangy - nary a nibble.
The Olentangy is really high, fast and like chocolate milk.
