Broke out the yak for the first time this year. It was nice to see some of my favorite spots on the river for the first time since last year. It's amazing how much things change each year but it's still mostly the same. The river was still up about a foot from my ideal wading level but the current has slowed down quite a bit. Visibility still in the 12" range. I only managed a couple dink smallies that weren't worth getting the camera out for, they were both caught in creeks that flowed into the river. My best lure of the day was the blue/silver Lazy Ike I picked up out of one of those WallyWorld bargain bins. I never used one before, they have a lot of action, seemed like it might be too much, but the fish were chasing them better than anything else I tried. (Rebel Minnow, tubes, swimbaits and some topwater) I even had a 3 foot gar chase one back to the boat. It was nice to be out but I'll be happy when the smallies return to the riffles and holes where I was catching them last year.
