Sounds like you guys have had some awesome fishing in western Lake Erie recently! I'd really like to take my father up there next week to experience the hot walleye bite. Most of my experience is trolling the central basin, so can I please get a few pointers? Like where to launch, which areas to fish, where to get bait, etc? Any help is greatly appreciated!

I'm new to this forum in the last few months and it seems like a great community!!

Thanks in advance!

You are right about the walleye bite is hot right now. Hopefully it will continue into the weekend. Everyone has a different techinique on how to jig for the walleye but this is how I do it: I drop a hair jig over the edge, wait for it to hit bottom and then just "twitch" it up about 3-6 inches, drop it back down on the bottome and "twitch" it again. This is just one continous motion, making sure you make contact with the bottom on the drop, then pick it back up. The hottest colors for me as been purple and pink (everyone has there own hot colors).
A drift sock is a must on Lake Erie with any waves at all, you will want to slow down as much as you can. If I were new to the area, I would launch at either Fenwick or Wildwings. You don't need bait right now, but if you wanted to pick up a few hair jigs or minnow (for your confidence level) you could stop at Happy Hooker...it is right across from both of these ramps. As far as were to fish, that changes from day to day, but a good start would be just off of Turtle Creek, Cone Reef, Niagra Reef, or Locust Reef. If you can't pick up fish on any of these spots you should probably change the way you are doing things.

I hope this helps. If you need anymore detailed information PM me and I would be more than happy to help you out.

We launched at Fenwick Marina off St Rt 2. Graet weekend of fishing last week.
Contact Happy Hooker 1-419-898-9676. They are right across from Fenwick. They'll set you straight on what you need. Monnows for most of us although alot did well without minnows.

Adventure,
A lot of guys were casting away from the boat and snap jigging back, with short, abrupt snaps...seemed to produce better than straight down below the boat...we used minnows, but some used Gulp or other artificials as well. The fish were on a suicide mission so it really didn't matter...hope you experience the same thing when you get up there...as for location, we did well right outside the mouth of Turtle Creek in 10-12 FOW. Since you are going a few weeks later, the fish may be moving out to the outer reefs like Cone, Niagara, Crib, Flat Rock, etc. as Rutty mentioned. Try inside first and move out if the bite is not there...don't be afraid to move if you don't get on the fish right away...just don't ever leave fish to find fish!

Good Luck and Tight Lines!
