welcome to the site. Griggs is not to bad. i minly fish ponds and wade creeks so cant help much sorry. but the others the this site will give good info, they have helped me alot.

 

hoover has plenty of good bank spots... i'd suggest you move farther north on the bank

 

ive caught alot of cats at the dam at alum. pretty much last summer every time i went there and just let a minnow set on bottom id catch a cat even though i was going for the eyes.

 

I fish hoover from shore and do quite well at times. Mixed bag of fish crappies whitebass, cats, sometimes Lm, Sm and everynow and then saugeye. Theres only a few places that produce decent catches from shore. Riprap areas are best from shore u might catch anything there. Also be able to fish diffrent depths down to 30ft. The more active fish should be north of baldridge up to the creeks.

 

Nice channel cat fishing anywhere north of Howard Rd. ramp up to Killbourne access on Alum Creek.

 

Fishing with minnow on bottom---do you have sinker on bottom and minnow above sinker, or how do you keep minnow on bottom fishing? Not sure of your technique (do you lose a lot of jigs with bottom fishing/tight line?)...thanks for help!

 

well depends on how active i feel that day, ive had success both ways with minnows especially at alum creek and hoover. sometimes i just tip a jig with minnow and bounce it slow if i wanna cast and retreive more, if i take my gf with me, usually we just sit there in some chairs i then i rig our gear with drop shots, usually with two hooks, one 6 inches off bottom and the other about three feet up.

I tried Hoover at the end of Oxbow Road today without much luck, but the lake looked a little high and choppy. Any other good spots on the lake further north?

What do you mean by easily accessible?

Are you able to hike 1/2 to 1 mile over some rough terrain? If so, I know of some great honey holes I will share with you.
