Predict the future for me

I'm in charge of arranging a fishing venture in mid-August. I'm sure there are some veteran's here who can predict ( in general terms) the western basin walleye bite or perhaps no-bite at this time. I realize it may not be the best time of year.

Could a veteran give me an idea of what to expect that time of year, or what part of the basin will be best?

Thanking you in advance.

Are you set on the western basin? The sandbar in August is usually a great bite and a good amount of big fish, the sandbar is off of Lorain (alot of charters) about 35 minutes to the east of the islands. I've never fished the islands in August but the deeper waters around kelley's and gull island should still provide some action, if the water really warms up this summer in July the bite won't be all that good IMO.

You can get nice fish between West Sister and Middle Sister trolling in August. The flats area has been good too but its a hit and miss bite and you would be better served going east.

well if your going to lorain you might as well head a little bit further east and hit geneva ohio. might even get one of those trophy walleye geneva is famous for. geneva is a hot spot after june. we move the boat there the first week of july and keep it there the rest of the summer.

I thoroughly agree. And less junk fish.

Definitely check east of Cleveland... Geneva, Mentor, Ashtabula. As the water warms lots of fish migrate to the cooler deeper waters east. I fish the Lorain sandbar and there are years when the bite slows quite a bit in August. I don't expect that to happen this year but who knows. Last year they went way north, almost to the Canadian line. I wouldn't wait too much longer to line up a charter... if that's what you're lookin' at.

My book from last year shows the 2nd week of august we were taking limits of walleye C can to the line. But it was a first thing in the morning bite.Generally yeah it is pretty well done.
