Glo-Bugs tied in Penguins colors (black and gold/yellow).

I had heard somewhere that a study had shown that trout preferred multicolored eggs and yellow and black were especially favored. Blue was said to be the preferred single color. Anyone else ever hear of this?

I read in a recent Field and Stream that trout see shades of purple (close to blue) especially well. It's something about their vision that allows them to see purple better than most colors. The guide that wrote the piece said he uses purple versions of popular flies, like Adams', prince's, etc... and they produce on tough days when nothing else does. I'd say give 'em a shot!

I too have read the same on the blueish /purple... The same Local guide/well known fly tyer has wrote a few articals on this that i stumbled upon all my winter reading at Borders (once a week).

Now those stickin eggs seem more pittsburg steelers colors..LOL

but on the flipside, the same color pattern i used on a prince nymph pattern and i got two vicous strikes this past weekend when no other pattern and colors were producing for me.. the fly pattern i tyed almost looks like a yellow jacket instead..

Hell NO!!! If they were Steelers colors they would more likely repel fish away. Everyone knows that any combination of Steelers colors on a fly or lure creates a horrible smell that would put the strongest catfish stinkbait to shame. :D The Penguins black and gold is totally different of course, and I'm expecting will be like trout candy! ;)
