I'd like to make the run out to Pelee a few times this year to try for smallies, but am not familiar with which sides of island are better. Any advice to get me started would be much appreciated.

I would start on the north side of the island called the Helicopter Pad, that is usually a pretty good place to start. Or fish Middle Point.
theres some bumps between king george and mill point that are good---mill point---like rutty said middleground lite---sheriden on the other side and some spots on the wheel---you can find em on the chicks too---the season opens later (july???)
Canadian waters opens the last Saturday in June.......and you don't want to fish for them until then. You will get in big trouble.
where I fish depends on the winds,thats what good about the Island you can always hide from the wind ..If you get stuck over there you can stay in North Bay or South Dock
