My brother and I had decided that we were going to fish the shallower water today. We launched at the causeway around 5:40 and headed south. We started out on the east side in 9-12fow. We made 3 kinda long drifts and caught probably 40 crappie but only 7 of them were keepers. I'd say that 10 or so of the throwbacks were right at 9 inches. Once we measure the crappie, if it's legal, it goes right in the cooler that has our frozen jugs in it. I like to allow a little room for shrinkage, so 9-1/4 is the smallest crappie that we'll keep. After our third drift we decided to see if we could find another spot that had a better keep to catch ratio. I know that there is a saying that says "you don't leave fish to find fish" but I saved the spot in my GPS so I figured that if we didn't find a better spot we could always come back to where we first started. I didn't go any farther south, instead I went straight across the lake to fish the west side. We fished the same depth on this side,9-12fow. We caught a few less crappie on the west side but definitely more keepers. We caught some on minnows but most of the fish that we caught today were on Bobby Garlands and nibbles. We fished until about 10:30 and it started heating up pretty good so we left. We ended up with 26 keepers. Water temperature was 80 degrees.
