Too many teeth to be a Musky or Pike... Either way, I'm done swimming in Erie!!

Some kind of salmonoid, for sure. The black gums lead me to believe that it's a chinook, or king salmon.

The teeth look odd (big), but that's mostly likely due to the flesh drying out and shrinking around the mouth.

 

It sure seems to look like a king. They have those long chompers up front.

 

Its more than likely a King salmon. There are a few still caught in our streams in the fall usually in October. I haven't caught one for a few years but the males have some "monsterous" looking teeth. Send the pic to the ODNR and I bet they tell you the same thing.

And while were on the subject, why did Ohio(?) stop stocking kings in lake Erie? Did they just not fare well in shallow water? or did it have something to do with the negative impact on the walleye fishery?

Ohio stocked coho salmon, not kings. They stopped, and started to stock steelhead. They figured steehead was better suited for the lake and offered more ohio residents a better chance. Salmon left and went elsewhere and only returned once to spawn. Not a lot of bang for your buck there.

Definitely not a muskie, some kind of salmonoid , I am leaning toward king.

Its a King, it has remnants of a adiposel fin. Seen them in that condition along the Manistee River after the spawn.

 

Coho salmon have dark metallic blue or greenish backs with silver sides and a light belly and there are small black spots on the back and upper lobe of the tail. The gumline in the lower jaw has lighter pigment than does the Chinook salmon. Spawning males develop a strongly hooked snout and large teeth

They were stocked for years in the Huron River but never did well. I caught quite a few wading around coho dam which has since been removed.

It's a king. I have seen king and coho caught first hand this year in Ohio.

 

Is there an answer to the question or are we just guessing.

 

It looks more like a chum to me, but I know we don't have those around, gotta be a king

 

Or actually, its possible that its a hen pink
