Well Fellers, after copious amounts of trial, error, and threatening to bust the Fly Stick over my knee, I finally landed a gall darn Steelhead!!! I hooked her in a calm pocket surrounded by fast water, so naturally she jumped right into the current. Not really knowing what in Sam Hill I was doing and afraid to put to much pressure on her, I had to chase her down river! Was it dangerous? Of course it was, but by dumb luck and cat like reflexes I was able to get her to the bank about 100 yards down stream! Not a giant by any stretch, but one I will always remember.

Solid fish there. I will say to keep them under some control, fight them with your rod horizontal as much as possible. If they get downstream in current, turn rod on side down stream and they will usually have to bend toward shore. Sometimes it even causes them to swim back up.

My first fish I didn't even reel in line or pull in line. I kept stepping backwards until my buddy netted the 19 inch fish. Yours is much bigger it seems. Great start there!

Thanks for the tip! I made it sound more glamorous than it was. I was lifting to make another cast when the fish hit. She immediately ran right at my legs, damn near toppling me in the process. I couldn't find the teeny tiny knob to reel for the first 30 seconds and from shore the chase probably looked like a drunk, lost in the river, and waiving a stick around. :ROFLMAO:
