Great job! We spider rigged for a little over two hours Saturday and it was slow for us. We did catch nice quality fish though. Was very sketchy putting in at Red Bank with my 19’ deep V however.

 

Yea we left my deep v at home and brought the farher in laws 16 foot modified v instead for that reason, we knew it would be low

 

Are the ramps really that bad? USGS shows it’s down nearly 8 feet from full pool which isn’t out of the ordinary for this time of year. In other years it’s been down double digits.

 

There is no ‘ramp’ in the water at Red Bank and the dock is out also to the point I had to back the boat up with the TM so my dad could wade out and get in. The end of the new ramp built is not in water, therefore you have to launch your boat off the uneven rocks. For me, this is not typical for Hoover. Draw down should be starting anytime now, but this is pretty low.

 

Got it. Thanks Josh. Haven’t been on the water since July. Heard they were pulling docks earlier than normal this year. Hoping some of the steeper ramps like Walnut remain accessible. Would be nice to get out after this heat wave passes

 

Hoover doesn’t get drawn down like other reservoirs in the area. It’s a city water supply lake and that’s the cause of low water levels this late in the year. As RiparianRanger said, it’s usually down double digits this time of year but the wet spring/early summer kept it at full pool a lot longer than normal.

Red bank ramp was fine, one side had 4-5 of the floating docks still in the water, the other had 2. The ramp there is good until the water is down around 15 feet. The baldridge ramp, right before the sunbury rd bridge is a different story. Dock is 100% dry and you will be backing into the rocks/sand to launch.

Fish of all species were active today. White bass, most of them big, were the most plentiful. If we got the cranks past them when trolling there were saugeye to be had. Also got into some crappie, LMB and channel cats. Once the morning chill passed it was a beautiful day on the water.

Flicker shads and SR7s @ 2-2.5mph. Sexy Shad pattern flicker was the hot bait.

 

Hit hoover this morning for 2.5 hours, launched the toon at red bank no problem, Ramps were like hoover for me said. Couldn't get any eyes. Hoover for me confirms I thought I saw some on the bottom under the crappie. Flicker 7;s also, just several crappie, one white bass, and one blue cat @ 7.5 pounds 27".
